Veluthambi Dalawa Memorial

Veluthampi Dalawa Memorial Museum at Mannadi is dedicated to the famous freedom fighter, Veluthampi Dalawa.He is said to have committed suicide inside the Mannadi Temple after his obstinate resistance against the British army.

The Historical Museum at Mannadi started functioning from 14th February 2010. The memorial has been designed in such a way as to enlighten the posterity about the heroics of Veluthampi. A statue of Veluthampi Dalawa is erected in front of the museum.

The memorial consist of Statue and a small temple with Sword and small museum. Museum is closed on Monday.

It's nice to see there. Old swords, statue and other Items more than 200+ years old, Historical records written in 'thaaliyoola' and many more.

Veluthambi Dalawa Museum is situated nearby to Veluthambi Dalawa Open Air Auditorium, and close to Veluthampi Dalawa Memorial Mannadi.The old statue of Veluthampi Dalawa in front to the museum is the major attraction here.Really a calm and greeny place .Entry fees is free

This museum preserves the memories of the great freedom fighter Veluthampi Dalawa and the notable events of history. Good atmosphere and cooperative staffs. Nice place to visit.

It's a historical place every one should visit

The historical museum set up here by the archaeological department has an open air gallery which includes portraits of all the Travancore rulers from Marthanda Varma to Sree Chithra Thirunal. The museum also has numerous artifacts like stone statue of Buddha, ancient agriculture utensils, canons, ancient war equipments and so on. A picture gallery depicting the life of Veluthampi Dalawa and a numismatics gallery are also there.

Velayudhan Chempakaraman Thampi (1765–1809) was the Dalawa or Prime Minister of the Indian kingdom of Travancore between 1802 and 1809 during the reign of His Highness Maharajah Bala Rama VarmaKulasekhara Perumal. He is best known for being one of the earliest individuals to rebel against the British East India Company's supremacy in India.

Velayudhan Thampi was the son of Sri Kunyan Pillai and his wife Valliyammai Pillai Thankachi. He was born on 6 May 1765 in the village of Kalkulam, in Thalakulam Valiyaveedu, around 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) from the town of Nagercoil in the present day Indian state of Tamil Nadu, then a southern district of Travancore State. He came from a family that held the high title of Chempakaraman for their services to the state by Maharajah Marthanda Varma. Velayudhan Thampi, better known as Velu Thampi, was appointed a Kariakkar or Tahsildar at Mavelikkara during the initial years of the reign of Maharajah Bala Rama Varma. His full name was "Idaprabu Kulottunga Katirkulatu Mulappada Arasarana Irayanda Talakulatu Valiya Veetil Tampi Chempakaraman Velayudhan..
