One the greatest experience we ever had here. We lived every moment with nature and it is recommended only for the ones who love stay without network, gadgets and electronics cos it is situated in one of the best location. The food prepared were so delicious. Mr.Vineeth had taken care of us very well. Thank you

The location is one of the best I have been ,with stunning scenic views all around.
Sambhar deers and red giant squirrels was a treat to watch from our cottage windows.
The 8 km off-roading jeep ride was a thrill .
The cabins in which we stayed are basic but was clean and neat.
The hospitality and service of staff is worth mentioning.
Will surely recommend to friends and colleagues.

Downside : The place may not suit senior citizens.
Electricity is only between 6 pm to 11 pm after that generators are switched off and l (lanterns are given after that)
Hydro turbine works when streams are gushing but not during peak summer

The hulivana experience started with a jeep ride , the jeep drove where there was no road, over boulders and through a stream.

Vinu our jeep driver was well experienced in negotiating this terrain and made it look so easy .
The other guest had brought along their pet dog and we could tell it was quite taken back by the bumpy ride.

Next was the location, it was on the foot of Jenukal hill, looking at the cottages we were amazed as to how they were able to transport building materials for constructing this homestay.
The early morning long trek to depaddukal is the highlight as we had a panoramic view of the surrounding hills.
The stream walk was an easy trek but the water level had gone down as it was summer. We had to watch out for elephants as it was a thicket as they usually frequent these rock puddles by the streams
The villas were modest with clean basic facilities as we watched the twinkling fireflies from our large french windows throughout the night.
The place not only suits adventure lovers like me but is also ideal for those who want to retreat to a quiet and peaceful place.

It is indeed a jungle stay rather than a resort..the stay was great and so is the hospitality..the staff there are very friendly.

It was an all rounder package with all the amenities inside the jungle.

Felt like a new experience after all the experiences we had earlier.

Wonderful place to be. Wonderful experience. No hype no bluff. If you want to be close to nature, this is the place. This is my second visit after a gap of 7 years. It is still exciting even now. Had been there with friends before and took my family this time.

The treks is something you should never miss.

Warm hospitality and tasty food. Overall a very exciting experience. Thank you Hulivana.

What an amazing place to be!!! I was in shock when I visited that place. It was a surprise visit and had not seen any pics of this place.

The location is very secluded. The entire place is entwined with nature as they have described. We were able to trek 2 trails, take bath in the stream in front of the room. They also generate their own electricity

The food was really good with a touch of traditional cooking style. I would love to visit again. Our host was an amazing person too.

Hulivana is my fav place for trekking & birdwatching.
This is my third visit and will be coming back again.
We woke up to the Malabar Thrush' s whistling tunes.
We also spotted Malabar hornbills, Kestrel & Rufus woodpeckers.

The management restricts and does not admit big groups or crowds so we had the entire place for ourselves.
The night sky is spectacular for stargazing as there are no lights for miles.
My only grouse was the renovation work this time ,as the noise at times was unnerving but understood it was necessary before the monsoon season commenced.

Hulivana is isolated inside the jungle and it's far from civilization.
This is the reason we chose this unique place and it was an experience of a life time.

Though it is not a luxury resort ,
but even in such a remote location they provided us a comfortable stay.

The room , bathroom and bedsheets were clean and the food served were all konkan dishes.
They also prepared slender bamboo shoots and raw jackfruit sabji found in the forest.
The location is very very breathtaking and full marks to the cook for the tasty dishes
Note : Those who are scared of leeches ( I am still ) do not go for the shola walk if it rains heavily .

Absolutely loved the experience here. We came here as a group of eight, booked a cottage and two tents. We visited the place by the end of June, so it was raining almost all the time. The forest is leech-infested (obviously, given that these are rain forests), which was a bit of a downer for a couple of girls in our group. Otherwise, the spot the place is situated in is nice. The stay was comfortable.
The food was unexpectedly good—I’ve visited my share of resorts in the Ghats, and without a doubt the food in this one was among the best. The dining are is a nice hangout spot, and a highlight.
The folks who own and run the place are nice, know the surroundings well, and the treks they took us on were enjoyable. Given that it was raining all the time, there were clouds. So we could not get a view of the entire place from atop the second-tallest peak, but the trek in the rain compensated for it.
Absolutely loved the experience here.

Had been here in 2017, this place is into extreme nature and it’s an experience staying here out of nowhere. Bumpy roads, Tent stay (they have cottage as well), Great Food and Hospitality, Trek, Aroma of Jungle.. Best thing hardly you get mobile signal and no digital footprints at all. I have suggested this too many nature lovers, few have already been there and had a great experience. They don’t take too many guests, it’s always limited numbers.

We were a group of 7 who chose Hulivana precisely because of how isolated and far from the madding crowd it seemed. A small speck in the middle of nowhere looked and sounded like just the thing we needed and it turned out to be just that.

Before we left for Hulivana, we had multiple calls with the owner who kept stressing that it was an eco resort in an out of the way place and that we should temper our expectations accordingly. And we did. And we were not disappointed at all.

Is Hulivana for everyone? Absolutely not. Two sets of people this place is definitely not for:
1)The under 10s or over 40s, unless they are very fit and very non fussy.
2) Those expecting a resort stay - with room service, food on call, 24/7 electricity and ready made "activities"

Why is it not for these people? Cause this is a place that's been built in the middle of nowhere. A place that takes a good 30 to 45 mins to get to on a road that has literally been hacked out of a mountainside (the road itself is an experience - but not for the faint hearted again). It's a place where you need strong legs and good lung capacity merely to climb up to your rooms from the dining area. A place where you need to be ok with not having your phones charged and on the network unless you're in a designated spot.

As city dwellers we tend to forget that it takes time, effort and money to get things at our fingertips. Hulivana is not a place where things you want magically appear when you want them. They need to be pre planned because sudden requests need someone to hop in a van and then do a mad ride into and back from town to procure them. There are no fridges to stock up on sudden snack requirements in a place with no 24/7 electricity. No high maintenance pools with chlorinated water to lounge around it.

Despite all this, Hulivana is 100% an experience worth having. I can't remember the last time I saw that many stars in a clear night sky. Walking my lazy butt down to and back from every meal was a huge awakening about how functionally unfit I'd let myself become. Exploring the little stream that ran by the cottages and doing a little spot of forest bathing made all of us breathe easier and deeper. And not having phones on for two days was a blessed bit of silence we all didn't know we needed.

So go with the right expectations and you will find yourself having a truly one of a kind experience. If not, there're 10s of fancy resorts down the hillside that'll give you a neatly packaged, vanilla resort experience.

Need digital detoxification, visit this place. You will have to park your vehicle and take their jeep to reach this place. They don't take too many visitors. Carry your things as this is remote and there is no nearby shops. Great hospitality! Stay for a day or two, you will remember this experience for long

July onwards the aura of this place changes. Impact can be felt till Mid February. One needs to watch out for leaches. Rooms are decent however service can be improved.

Real one off by Indian standards. Vinu, Sunil and rest of the team make sure to address every need. Stayed for 2 nights in early August during the monsoon. Really remote place and because of only 2 cabins and maximum capacity of 12 really exclusive. Ride for the last few kms to the resort is an adventure in itself 4 by 4. Could not see too many birds or wildlife because of the monsoon, but I guess would be best post monsoon. Spotty cell coverage, which is great to be off phone coverage for a couple of days. Lots of options for trekking and fully customisable. Cook from uttarakand , more than enough to compensate for the most strenonous treks!!!
Had a truly one off experience with family and friends on a brief vacation from USA.
Visited from Hyderabad. Direct flight to Mangalore. Drive from Mangalore airport was the only thing which was a little inconvient due to monsoons, took us close to 5 hours.
All in all, had a great time and would like to visit again and would recommend to nature lovers who like some exercise.

Had visited this place a couple of years ago, an amazing place in between of nowhere far away from hustle. Just loved the concept and the way it is managed without disturbing and polluting the surroundings. Food was good and staff was very friendly and supportive.
If you love spending time with nature this place is for you. There’s no luxurious stay available there, just the tents. It offers and extends nature’s own luxury with an unmatched adventurous experience for adventure seekers.
