My God! Wonder how they built and maintained temples of such enormous area in those days! Mind boggling indeed. Very beautiful and serene temple with excellent carvings and sculptures. Both the main deities (மூலவர் and உற்சவ deities are so beautiful one can stand and watch mesmerized for hours.

Rajagopalaswamy temple, Mannargudi is considered the first Abhimana sthalam of vaishnavate tradition.
Located 40kms from thanjavur, the temple complex spreads over 23 acres and tall 192ft gopuram with temple tank.
The presiding deity is vasudeva perumal (moolavar) 7 feet tall in standing posture while urchavar is rajagopalaswamy. His consort is known as sengamalathayar located in the second precinct around the sanctum. There's a santhana gopalan silver idol believed to bless child less couple.
The ancient temple is a model of dravidian architectural design built by Chola king Kulothunga I (1070-1122CE) with later contributions from Rajaraja III, Rajendra III and Thanjavur nayaks.
The temple also contains inscriptions of Hoysalas and vijayanagar grants.
The hall of 1000 pillars, main gopuram and compound wall was built by vijayaraghava Nayak (1532-1575CE).
Sri purandara dasaru, kannada carnatic legend had glorified the god with kannada song during vijayanagar rule.
Great place to visit for blissful divine darshan.

Mannargudi Rajagopala Swami temple is one of the Abhimana Kshetrams. Rajagopalaswami offers darshan with Sengamalavalli Thayar. True to the name Rajagopala, we can see the cow and calves grazing around him. You can have his beautiful darshan as a Yadava with a single cloth adorning him and the same folded over his head. His consort Sengamalavalli Thayar is graceful and kindness personified.

Magnificient Rajagopalaswamy Temple- is an under statement The ancient .town of Mannargudi was just an Agraharam until the entry of Nayaks. The beautiful Agraharam derived its name from Mannarkovil or Rajamannarkovil. In Tamil, Mannar means 'Lord Vishnu' and Kovil means 'the abode of Vishnu'. Initially, Mannargudi was bordered by the tall compound walls of Rajagopalaswamy temple. It became popular only when Thanjavur Nayaks made it their capital and Rajagopalaswamy Temple became the centre of attraction.
This Temple is known as Dakshina Dwaraka,

Here Lord Krishna is worshipped as Rajagopalaswamy and there is a big statue of Krishna in the sanctum. The large temple premises consists of majestic gopurams, seven halls along with several small shrinesRajagopalaswamy Temple has been one of the important Vaishnava shrines in Tiruvarur, Tamil Nadu.It is one of the Abhimana Sthalam Of Vaishnavas

Very nice temple, well maintained and has a 36 year old elephant. Very peaceful temple. Not far from bus stand but probably difficult for elders to walk from bus stand. Need to get down and temple stop from the bus.

What a divine feeling. I am not here to give rating. Very big temple. We can get dharshan from very close range as in many vaishnavaite temple. As usual the dedication with which the pattaachchaariyas showing aarti and alongwith explaining the deities with all finer details really worth mentioning. Both at Vasudevan and Sengamala thayar sannathi we had very nice dharshan. The thousand pillared mandap/ hall is another architectural marvel that can be seen here.
The temple elephant the cute Sengamalam adds happyness to us.
