Vaduvoor Birds Sanctuary - Thiruvarur, Tamilnadu

> Entrance fee is Rs.10, and if you visit in groups, you will get binocular for viewing at free of cost.

Hidden Nature gem Not too far from Kumbakonam. The drive from kumbakonam is very scenic. Preserves an ancient irrigation canal/tank in a unique manmade wetland

Pros:
Beautiful lake and park. Habitat for waterbirds, kites, eagles - very calm and serene place
Great to visit in early November. Saw Ibis, anhinga, herons, egret, kite, terns, swift, kingfisher, oriole, songbirds, chipmunks
Entry for birders with cameras is 60r, less if you don’t have a camera.
Facilities are neat. There’s even a bathroom / guest house inside the park
Park employee is not very knowledgeable about birds but very nice and kind.
Early morning there is not too many guests at all. I was often the only person within eyeshot.

Cons:
No parking for vehicles inside the parks
The sidewalk around the lake is under construction. Have to cross through thick mud to reach the Bird Blind.
Because there’s no sidewalk it’s hard to reach most areas without hiking boots
The bird blind at the end of the trail is not well maintained and is dangerous. Great view but watch your step.
Eco shop cafe and second viewpoint are not inside the park
Minimal insects / no snakes in November

Vaduvur bird sanctuary is located on Tanjore mannargudi highway. Road extension is done except the sanctuary area. Lot of different varieties of birds were spotted there. Since we didn't have good quality digital camera, at that time, the photos were taken in mobile phone and they are uploaded here. Apologies for poor quality of photos.

One of the tranquil and pleasant Sanctuary I have ever visited. At a max there will be less than 10 visitors in the entire sanctuary. It contains primarily a lake. In the entire stretch of the lake, there is a pathway for us to walk. Within less than a minute, we will feel like we were inside some forest. Lot of Squirrels, Parrots and other birds are there. Once we go midway of the path, we can see the birds flocking together on the lake.

At the end there is a WATCH TOWER. Please ask for a BINOCULAR in the front office. Once we get on to the Watch Tower, we can find an amount of Birds through the Binocular.

Don't expect much. It's a small Sanctuary situated next to a lake. Normal visitors can spend an hour max here. There are no canteen or food court inside.

This sanctuary build in one side of the vaduvoor lake they placed the footpath and seating aranged here

At the back side of the lake they build the watch tower it's distance around .750 km from the enter of the sanctuary

Here they provide binocular to watch the birds it's wonderful

Also kids park available. wonderful palace for visiting with kids in your holiday time

Friendly officer, they guide the photographer for when and where the birds and what time you will get the pleasent photo of it

Entery fee for adult 10 for bike parking 20 rupees

Car parking not available inside the sanctuary you need to place it out side of it only

Bycycle also available for riding inside of the sanctuary

Toilet, drinking water also available.

Nice place to spend time with family members. It located centre in between tanjavur to mannarkudi. Thiruvarur district. Opening time all days morning 9 to evening 5.30 pm.all over world birds coming in may month of every year.all types of birds in world availble there.

A peaceful place to relate ourself with nature.... woth seasonal birds spending their life here .... the lake is clean and a pleasant watch with the birds retreating in their habitat...Now lot of migratory birds can be seen perching around the small islands of trees in the lake... more than ever.

The spot which is becoming very famous. Lot of birds 🐦🕊🦅🦆🦃🦉 with a good view spot.
The best time to see is during early morning and during dawn times.
One important thing about that place is, try to visit the place during the water availability periods. Otherwise no birds will be there.
Place to spend with family

Great place to spend time with family, Birds sanctuary was very well maintained good path way for visitors after that sand path till view point, but view point lack of maintenance. Rest rooms were very well maintained. Small children park was very well maintained. But place is lack of two and four wheeler parking. Seems Government has some future please for development which needs to be implemented faster.

Nice big area, we couldn't see many birds, because it's seasonal.Some birds were far off, water was also not much.

Very nice . Good to see so many beautiful birds with a nice view point. Wish there was ⛵ boating .

It's a nice place... Early morning visit is advisable....

A very nice place for bird lovers.. located on Thanjavur _ Mannargudi high way.. this bird sanctuary is located at the first step of Thiruvarur district.. in other words, it is on the edge of Thanjavur - Thiruvarur districts boundary..

It's a beautiful place to visit migration birds.. August to January is the best time to visit this place.. If you have DSLR camera.. They will charges depends on your camera..

Wonderful place for evening near Mannargudi and Thanjavur. Entry 10 per person, they will give Nikon Binocular to watch birds from distance. I had nice experience. Attached view of Binocular.

Those who are around Tanjavur, Trichy, Thiruvarur districts can try this 1 day tourist spot. Lots of beautiful birds come from different geographical regions. Boating facility also there (Temporarily closed due to COVID lockdown). Several view points are also there.
No entry fee
No car parking and you can park on the road side near entrance.
Binocular is required as we can't expect the birds to be nearer where we can see with our bare eyes.
Take food with you as there are spots where you can hangout with family, friends. This place is nearer to the town and you can get food in moderate restaurants by walk from the entrance.

Neatly maintained toilets, bathrooms, children's play area, etc. There is a Rama temple in walkable distance outside the premises which is simply good.

Don't lean on the trees as there are numerous caterpillars there. This is the only tolerable con which I noticed. I'm attaching the photo of those only for your awareness.

I would love to visit again in different seasons.

Extraordinary settlement of bird habitats... Ensuring great view point for photo enthusiasts and nature lovers

Calm and neat place to visit. Only seasonal birds are there. No special or specific highlights.

It's seasonal.. check and come.. Hundreds of Birds... best time is morning.. when they leave their nest. and in evening when they all come back.. around 5 to 6 PM.. it would be mesmerising to watch birds coming in 50s - 100s..

One of the best places to visit with a family of more than 75 species of birds we can count in November to february with more abundance.
In March to September there are at least 30-40 species of common and wader birds we can observe.
Best place for bird lovers and nature lovers, children definitely enjoy a lot.
