District Heritage Museum Palakkad

I would describe it as a hidden gem within Palakkad. They have done an absolutely amazing job of showcasing the culture of Palakkad including some of the ancient folk art and music prevalent in the deep interior parts and among the tribal people. There is also a separate section devoted to the long history of Carnatic music in Palakkad.

Update from February 06, 2024.
I made it back there again today with some family members. They found it to be a very educational experience indeed. The docent of the Museum Mr. Ananthu was very helpful in guiding us through every single exhibit and explaining the significance and history of each one of them. Our big thanks to him !

Do not miss the interactive TV monitor station to listen to the sounds of a variety of musical instruments in use in and around Palakkad district and beyond.

This is a must see Meseum. All the traditional art forms and the instruments used for that are displayed there. Beutiful videos of them also being played. Those who want to see the cross section of our culture must visit here.

I visited museum on a Sunday evening. Since the museum is not noticed by public there's no one except me. The caretaker is a new young govt.employee,and helpful. Though he didn't switch on all the multimedia and shadow puppet show just for me, explained everything. Authorities should make road, a signage and pre announce programs (if any).There's lot of scope for classical music instrumental dance tribal heritage shows and performance here, you just need to go public and Marketing. All rooms etc kept neet and clean.

This is a must visit place in Palakkad.
The museum has been kept very well.
If you are planning to visit just make sure you are going to this place on Monday as they are not open.
The official person in the museum was very helpful in explaining the details.
So far they haven't started charging for the visit, but very soon they will be charging. So make sure to visit this place ASAP.

It was really well equipped museum with lots of advanced technology and entertaining method of giving knowledge about the artefacts . An incredible experience! It was an amazing opportunity to learn about many culture and rituals that we have long forgotten! A must visit for anyone travelling to Kerala. I think all districts in Kerala should have their own heritage museum!

Great display of Kerala's traditional art and music forms. The design of the museum was really great. A must visit place for those who doesn't know about musical and other art forms of Kerala.

A must visit place in Palakkad those who born and brought up here, especially.
We can come to know about the rich culture of the district and varieties of arts and festival details with audio visuals.
Very neatly arranged in and out with ample space for parking.
It's a state government initiative and they are trying to develop such muses in every district to showcase the rich culture and history there for the knowledge of new generations.
The visuals presented there can quench the thirst of every person who wishes to proud of being a person of Palakkad.
The staff assigned in the museum are welcoming and supportive for each and every queries of visitors.
The lost culture of tribals along with their musical instruments are presented here in the background of a jungle for a real life experience.
I could witness and experience the rich culture and heritage of Palakkad from here.
I recommend everyone to visit here and promote such intiatives.

Palakkad District Heritage museum. It's is in the village Kalpathy here musical instruments and the artworks of palakkad Tholpavakoothu, porattu Nadakam, Thullal these artforms placed on navarasa zone 5 and musical instruments Valluvanad utsavam enakalakal also placed .
