A very decent place, 4 floors of history of the area and an unbelievable archeological site. Highly recommended

The State Museum of San Marino, or Museo di Stato, can be a worthwhile visit for those interested in the history, culture, and art of San Marino.

The museum provides insights into San Marino's rich heritage, covering archaeological finds, historical artifacts, and artworks that span various periods.

It offers a cultural experience, showcasing the artistic and historical aspects of this small and unique republic.

If you have an interest in archaeology, the museum features artifacts from prehistoric and Roman times, giving you a glimpse into the early history of the region.

The ethnographic section provides a look into the daily life, traditions, and customs of the people of San Marino.

If you have an interest in coins and currency, the numismatic section displays historical currencies used in San Marino.

You can easily spend hours in here! There are so many interesting Roman artefacts and stories. There was an art installation and a temporary exhibition on pandemic diseases. We had reduced ticket for 5 eur because the second floor was closed at the time.

The ticket here gave access to surgeon house as well. Here we saw a reconstruction of the Chambers and also the original objects. The archeology part is quite fine. The art part was not something special.

Great little museum, the Roman section being particularly good. Unmissable if you are visiting Rimini. I strongly recommend booking, in advance, an English speaking guide for the Surgeon's House: it adds a lot to the experience!
Many items/paintings on the second floor could do with more explanation and personally I would move the René Grau drawings somewhere else, perhaps a little dedicated gallery by the seafront? When I visited there was a room with the Federico Fellini drawings as well: I assume these have now been moved to the new Fellini museum.

Great museum with a huge collection. At the time of this review, the museum has a temporary exhibition of the Italian cartoon "Pimpa". The ancient history section in the basement is also really interesting and complements the nearby "House of the surgeon". We paid 5 Euro per adult and the kids had free entry. You can visit the city museum and the surgeon's house with one ticket. Ideal if you have a couple of hours to spend!

Proved more interesting than I could have hoped for. Starting with a useful lesson in Architecture on the lowest floor to a beautiful mixture of all different arts on the three floors above. I liked the painting of the seven Rimini physicians and the polychrome wood Christ is breathtaking and terrifying. The stress shown on the flesh of the feet and hands of Christ with the nails removed really displays the brutality of the practice of crucifixion. Breathtaking piece!

Very interesting museum of the origins of the city. Well laid out with loads of good information in Italian and English. The exhibit linked to the Domus across the street is also fascinating. Wonderful mosaics! The staff were also particularly friendly and welcoming.

The Museum starts from the cobbles chipped by man one million years ago. Then all the stages of civilization up to the Roman age up to the threshold of the Middle Ages in the Archaeological Section. There are lavish mosaics, amphorae, and bricks made in kilns opened by the first entrepreneurs from Rimini, the exceptional set of surgical instruments and the splendid glass picture from the Surgeon’s House, along with everyday objects and even small pawns used as entrance tickets for the Anfiteatro (Amphitheater). The Medieval and Modern Section collects works mostly coming from the many religious buildings suppressed between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries or affected by the fury of wars and earthquakes. Witness of the local artistic history from the eleventh century to the early twentieth century, the Museum offers the thrill of discovering the Malatesta Rimini through the paintings of the 14th century Rimini School, the Pietà by Giovanni Bellini, the works by Agostino di Duccio and Ghirlandaio, and being fascinated by the pictorial experience of the Romagna’s seventeenth century in paintings by Cagnacci, Centino and Guercino

Great little (well, not so little to be fair!) museum! Its a shame most people who visit Rimini (or even people who live there!) dont know about this absolute gem!
This city has a very rich history and although a lot of its best historic buildings were destroyed by the bombs in World War II (and sadly never rebuilt/restored), the Museum still preserves some of the glory of Rimini's past in its art collections.
From prehistory through the Roman era (a very rich and extremely interesting section of the museum), to the middle ages and the glorious Renaissance period (some big names in the Pinacoteca), the 1600s and up to the modern days, the visitor can explore the history of the city and discover that Rimini has more to offer than just an overcrowded beach and noisy nightclubs.
The Museo della Città should definitely be advertised more and more effort and care (and funds!!) should be put towards its maintenance and development. Do not leave Rimini before you have seen it!
Highly recommended!

Archaeological collection is one of the most interesting of Rimini area: beginning from Neolithic evidences, you can find witnesses of Villanoviani civilization, pre- and roman trasures. Also modern collection is truly an unique counting in itself Bellini's, Ghirlandaio's, Guercino's artworks. If you want to know better City history and stories, this is the right place!

Beautiful place, stunning exposition, very friendly staff. Just one thing missing - descriptions of exhibition pieces in English. Nevertheless, it's a place you HAVE to visit during a stay in Rimini.
