Castello di Monteriggioni

Wonderful place to stay in Tuscany. The owner and family are extremely nice and make you feel welcome. The place has everything you need for a short and/or long stay. Also parking is possible INSIDE the city which is very cool. Couldn’t have selected a better place to stay.

Happen to see this nifty little town pop up on my map, and stopped by on a trip back from Tuscany. It was a little rainy, but a cool little place to stop and visit. Go check it out.

Great location for photography. The outward views are beautiful. The castle itself is idyllic. The tourist town inside is nice: you can do some shopping and get some food. Toilets were outside the castle and a bit far, which wasn't a big deal.. just surprised me that all the employees have to go that distance each time they need to use the bathroom. You have to pay a few euros to go up onto the walls, but it's worth it for the photos.

Monteriggioni is a comune in the province of Siena in the Italian region of Tuscany. It borders on the communes of Casole d'Elsa, Castellina in Chianti, Castelnuovo Berardenga, Colle di Val d'Elsa, Poggibonsi, Siena, and Sovicille.[3] The town is architecturally and culturally significant; it hosts several piazzas, and is referenced in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.

Quaint walled city! Theres cute shops and restaurants within the walls, but most are closed during off season. You can walk up on the wall for a small portion of it for just 2 euros, because most of it is being restored. But great views and a very Tuscan feel

Monteriggioni is a medieval walled town, located on a natural hillock, built by the Sienese in 1214–19 as a front line in their wars against Florence
by assuming command of the Via Cassia running through the Val d'Elsa and Val Staggia to the west.

During the conflicts between Siena and Florence in the Middle Ages, the city was strategically placed as a defensive fortification.
It also withstood many attacks from both the Florentines and the forces of the Bishop of Volterra.
In 1554 the Sienese were able to place control of the town's garrison to Giovannino Zeti, who had been exiled from Florence.
In 1554, in an act of reconciliation with the Medicis, Zeti simply handed the keys of the town over to the Medicean forces— considered a "great betrayal" by the town's people.

The owner & his family have been very attentive, and provided us with a lot of information & support for the field trips.
The Monteriggioni castle area is simply stunning!
The place is truly exceptional and offers a lot to see & experience.
The location is great - in the middle of Tuscany, you have the opportunity to enjoy the characteristic local sceneries, but also, to visit many other towns and historical places in the neighborhood.

This place is definitely worth to visit!

Very nice castle, several places to eat and to have a coffee

We have stayed at this beautiful hotel 5 times and always recommend it as a base to tour Tuscany. When booking make sure they book Il Pozzo restaurant next door for a great meal because it is very popular.

Everything was perfect! Beautiful, clean and very well equipped house including laundry machine and a parking spot in the garden. Matheo and his sister were so wonderful and gave us many great tips for trips around Monteriggioni (e.g. Volterra, Siena, San Gimignano)! We absolutely recommend this place, as everything is reachable by car in short time. Thank you very much for this wonderful time

This a great small town that’s surrounded by a medieval wall. Loved it. Just a real pleasant place to visit. Definitely recommended

Cute place to go but there’s nothing to do here. City walls were cool, it’s very, very small.

A small Castle in Tuscany. The place offers great view, a few shops and coffee shops. You can walk around the small streets and enjoy the historical places, walk around the walls or just sit back and enjoy the place.
There are a few museums but I haven't tried them.
If you are driving by, it is surely worth visiting
