Our stay in this hotel was THE GREATEST holiday experience of my entire life.

First off, if you want LED-lit jacuzzis and 60inch plasma TVs, this is not the place for you. This hotel is literally staying in a mediaeval village, in a mediaeval room, the walls and ceilings layered with the smoke and atmosphere of dozens of generations. The furniture is hundreds of years old, the bedding is made from locally sourced wool, the stone floors worn smooth from centuries of footsteps. The rooms have modern showers, baths and lights, but no more than that.

We stayed as a family of four with two boys aged 12 and 14. The rooms were comfortable and warm, with excellent beds, open fires (which only added to the atmosphere) and lots of space. The location in the village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio is incredible. A mediaeval village with narrow winding cobbled pathways, a few little restaurants and shops selling local produce. No cars. Walking through the village at night was an experience in itself. It was so very quiet and peaceful…

The service was first class. We were met at reception by a polite and happy gentlemen who spoke superb English and took time to explain some of the history and the background of the hotel and village (it is worth reading up on as it really is fascinating) we had our luggage taken to our rooms and were welcomed with some local radish liquor and fruit juice. We were given a WhatsApp contact to use if we needed anything from the team.

The area was wonderful. You do need a car to make the most of it, but every town and village in the area has so much history, beautiful buildings, quaint churches, little restaurants and bakeries, with lots of walks and hikes to enjoy. The hotel was therefore an ideal excellent base to explore the region, and every drive we took around the area was exhilarating, packed with little stops at cafes and viewpoints.

This was absolutely more than a hotel. It was an immersion into history and a way of life that felt a million miles away from the noises and distractions of modernity. A priceless experience that will stay with us for a long time.

Amazing! Went for our honeymoon and it was perfect. The room was romantic, clean, beyond our dreams. The food is delicious, some of our best breakfast in all of Italy. But most importantly the staff was exceptional. They helped with everything, arranged all our transport and we’re available to help us with everything! Even after we had the left the hotel they helped us countless times to help my daughter get a bag back she had lost. I’ve never experienced such kindness and generosity when someone didn’t have to. Best hotel I have been to and I travel a lot!

Service and hospitality was perfect. From the hotel staffs to the restaurant staffs to the porter, everyone was smiley, warm and welcoming. Especially the young lady, Stephanie at the reception, her service was excellent. The rooms are warm enough, bed was nice, local authentic food was greatz. This place is full of character and is authentic. We really enjoyed our 1 night stayed here. We will be back again next time. Thank you!

Absolutely loved this accommodation.

My partner and I stayed here as our second holiday together for 4-5 nights and it was perfect.

Full of history, natural and modern moments, beautiful food, culture, music, art, home-made oils, candles and loads more.

Welcome wine and bread on arrival 🙌🏼

Mountain hikes, lake strolls, variety of small restaurants to choose - all with amazing food and wines!

The bedrooms were old, wooden, clean, spacious, have an open fire pit with restocked wood to use and huge bath.

Would love to revisit!! 👏🏼☺

Perfect

Great location, in the medieval center of the magical Santo Stefano di Sessanio, , close to all the attractions. Classy, comfortable, warm ambiance, and attentive staff. Kudos to Elena and Mateo for going out of their way to help with guests. Check out their restaurant too, loved the local Abruzzo food and the attentive service.

We just got home from spending a wonderful night at Sextantio. We booked a one hour couple massage followed by dinner in the restaurant. We had a drink in the Cantinone before heading to dinner. The entire experience was fantastic. The staff were helpful and extremely kind. The details that have been put into this project is just wow! This isn’t a regular hotel, as it’s more of a cultural experience which is exactly our perfect type of getaway. Though it is different it’s still extremely comfortable. It was so amazing that I wouldn’t mind living that way permanently, it really sets the scene of what it would have been like back in those times. I will be back and I might even try Matera. Thank you!

Very nice place to stay. The beds could be more comfortable but apparently it’s part of the concept.
It is an experience to sleep in this place. It gives you at least a slight idea of life in such places in the past. It has been restored with a lot of taste and without overdoing it.

There is still a lot of construction going on around in the village.

I would recommend staying there for one night only, but I would definitely recommend it.

A wonderful and unique experience. The staff were very kind and welcoming. The panorama and surrounding area are magnificent. We hiked to Rocca Calisco (about 5k each way) while we were there. Even in July, our tower room was cool and comfortable, and the large soaking tub was sublime.
The lodging offers several experiences, and we booked a truffle hunting excursion with guide Andrea and expert canine Hugo. The truffle hunting was the highlight of our trip. Andrea and his girlfriend made us feel like part of the family. He is very knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna of Abruzzo, and we highly recommend you ask for a trip with him if you stay here.

Photo ops endless. Residents extremely friendly.

I was looking for a surprise trip to offer to my beloved and Sextantio came into my mind. We had the room with the chimney and bath - it was incredibly romantic with candles and warm cosy atmosphere. Bed was absolutely extra comfortable - bathroom too and the experience is 100% unique. Breakfast is incredible- local and organic food (sweet and salty) - also the canteen is really beautiful. All the staff is nice, welcoming and helpful. Rooms are spread around the village and every one is unique. The architecture and way how the architect restore it is something stunning and I really appreciated it. From the village there are path for nice, relaxing trekking. We appreciated all the outdoor. The way to Rocca Calascio was one of the best experience of my life and I loved also the rest of the area and do not miss Campo Imperatore highlands. Come, become a Sextantio fellow and enjoy your one in life best experience ! Super recommended

A unique experience of living in a small village that brings you back in the medieval era by allowing you stay in a place where you sleep in one of the houses where furniture and design mimics the old days. The fireplace, the table, chairs, the walls and the doors will bring you back to the past! But they do ensure that you are comfortable by providing nice bed, modern bathroom coupled with good wifi and wonderful hospitality of the staff

A unique and fantastic experience. Despite the village being hundreds of years old, the rooms are impeccable, and very comfortable. The food at the hotel restaurant is some of the best to be found in Italy. Fantastic service as well. Highly recommended all around! You won't forget it!

Time travelling just by being a guest in this amazingly well curated hotel. The concept of having rooms spread all over Santo Stefano village, makes it a unique experience already. Then the high level of interior design, maintaining the unique features of the past, while make it cozy and comfortable to stay… makes it unforgettable. Do not miss this experience

This place is like going back in time. It really was an amazing experience to stay here and see the incredibly charming little town of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, the castle Rocca Calascio, and Gran Sasso National Park. The staff was genuine, informative, and helpful, the food was top notch, and the wine bar was quite a treat. A really special place, I hope to return someday.

I honestly have no words for this place. And five stars are simply not enough. Even ten may not be enough honestly. It is one man’s effort that has brought the little town of Santo Stefano di Sessanio alive and that is incredibly commendable. I just wish that we could have stayed longer. The place is beautiful beyond imagination and all the rooms that we saw were so beautifully done. So much attention to detail. And Donatella from their team was fantastic. And so was Denise and the others but Donatella just stood out. Very very guest oriented.

Extremely fantastic experience and we wish them all the best. We are super satisfied guests. Again just wish that we could have stayed longer. I keep dreaming of the mesmerising vistas that we saw. Kudos.

The hotel is set in a very picturesque location on a hill. The rooms are small horses in a restored village. If you're looking for a way to escape and unwind it is highly recommended.
