Casa Mao

We did an overnight here during our trip to Italy and it did not disappoint. The accomodations are well appointed and had everything we needed. The stairs to the hotel are a lot, but well worth it once you are there. Our host met us at the pier and we were walked to the house. This is a small boutique hotel/house. Old in traditions and stories. The Host tells you about his grandparents and how they owned this house and this is where he grew up as a small child. It is really charming. He has been in Amalfi his whole life, so he is a wealth of knowledge about the local places and where to go for good food, entertainment, etc. We toured the paper musuem and ate lunch as a wonderful restuarant off the beaten path. They have the best Lemone Pasta. So make sure to try that out. Our stay was very memorable and we will stay with them again if given a chance.

We stayed here for 2 nights, before arriving, Gianfranco the manager, contacted us few days before our arrival and told us about our check in details, restaurants recommendation and what to do in Amalfi.

He waited for us and picked us up at the bus station, and brought us up to the apartment, and we were in awe with our view.

The room was big, clean, and very modern looking. Lots of fragrance diffuser around the place making the whole place smells heavenly! love the big bathroom with hot shower and we really loved our stay here.

Gianfranco was very helpful throughout the trip, replies promptly when we needed help and shared a lot of local knowledge with us.

Let me tell you this - Casa Mao is not just a place to sleep, It's an experience.

I misunderstood where is the meeting point and Gianfranco (owner) came running back to the apartment to do the check-in, he was helpful all the time while staying there, reachable by phone and genuinely a really nice guy.

This place is incredible, our room was perfectly clean and had a window above the bed - so before sleep we could watch the stars passing by.

Bare in mind you need to climb around 150 steps to the apartment, but most of the accomodations in Amalfi are in the hills and only reachable by foot via multiple steps.. BUT take those steps as stairway to heaven!

We had an amazing two days in Amalfi. Our host Gian Franco made it special giving us lots of suggestions and even helping us with the luggage. Simply the best host we had on this trip, very generous and accommodating. Room is clean, modern and loft style with spectacular view. Location is 5mins from square, a little climb but totally worth it for the view and spacious room!

Also this is a heritage house, used to be occupied by his grandpa, a known sculptor in Amalfi, his work can be found on the walls of the city, an interesting fact to the place.

First, we were contacted by GianFranco prior to our visit and he assisted us with all information for train rides to Salerno and the ferry to The Amalfi. He was very responsive to our needs and questions and once we arrived at The Amalfi, he met us at the dock and carried our luggage up to the villa, approximately 166 steps (I noticed negative people on the reviews bad mouthing the trek, but YOU’RE AT THE AMALFI COAST). Gianfranco provided us with plenty of restaurant recommendations and even helped us with anything that had a language barrier!

The rooms are beautiful and everything we needed was available! He also prepared a nice breakfast for us on the terrace that I highly suggest you take advantage of!

The best host I have ever had! He took me and my boyfriend out for coffee before our departure, as well as took our luggage down the flights of stairs as a favor. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The location is so great being a 5 minute walk down some flights of stairs to the town. This would definitely be somewhere I would come back to!

We stayed for only 1 night, but I wish we could have stayed longer. The view of Amalfi, the ocean, and the entire valley from the rooftop balcony was absolutely stunning. Casa Mao is a bit of a hike to get to, but WORTH IT! You won't regret it.
Gianfranco is an excellent host. He gave us great recommendations and made sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The hotel is actually his childhood home - named after his grandfather, an artist who carved all the marble artwork you see in the hotel.
We would absolutely stay here again and will recommend it to our friends and family.

My friend and I stayed at Casa Mao in September and we had such a great stay. We had the ocean view suite and the view was incredible. 100% worth the stairs to get there to be in a beautiful quiet area that had views of the ocean, bell tower and the cliffs of Amalfi. Gianfranco was an excellent host. He was so knowledgable about the area and took the time to really get us settled, including meeting us at the ferry. I appreciated his passion for the hotel as it used to be his grandparents house - incredible!
We had everything we needed in the room and it was very comfortable. Something that really stood out was the bathroom. It’s not easy to get spacious bathrooms and showers in Europe, but this bathroom was big, modern and very nice. Great shower! I’d happily stay here again and have already recommended it to a friend traveling.

I loved staying at Casa Mao during my solo trip in Amalfi! Gianfranco was such a great host - I arrived in Amalfi from Positano via bus and Gianfranco met me at the bus stop even though it was raining.

Everything about the stay was so thoughtful - from Gianfranco meeting me at the bus stop again after my motorbike tour (after check-out) with my backpack that he helped me store, to the history and decoration of the house (it’s Gianfranco’s childhood home and named after his grandfather who is a sculptor). Breakfast was also provided which was nice of them and convenient.

The hospitality, organization, and cleanliness of Casa Mao was greatly appreciated and I would recommend staying here (do note that there are quite a bit of stairs but it’s worth the price and value)!

We stayed in Casa Mao for 3 nights. The room was very clean with a great view. The breakfast was delicious and the host was really kind. He gave us great tips for our vacations and helped us the public transportation.

The hotel was really clean, the room was spacious, and Gianmarco was really nice and helpful... and the view from the terrace at breakfast is magnificent!
