Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere

Beautiful old church which was once used as a lookout for invasions from the sea. Sitting WWII, there was a lot of damage to the church, which has been restored. Unfortunately since then, people have been defacing the garden walls by etching their names, hometown and year.

A beautiful abbey a short drive away from Paglieta. Absolutely stunning views, gorgeous architecture and a bar on site where you can buy pizza, patisserie and drinks. The server was very friendly and chatty!

The only downside of this location was the toilets. They were not very clean, did not have any toilet paper, locks on toilet doors or hand soap.

Really cool place, a good walk or bike ride, but for tourists I guess it’s better to reach by car
It’s a XII century Abbazia, so it’s quite simple with no particular mosaici, or paintings but I found the three absidi a really cool concept

Absolutely must see. Really a wonderful church. From the piazza in front of one has stunning views on the coastline.

Abbey is located on a small hill, there is a parking place nearby. But I recommend this place for stunning view of the sea and gardens that are part of the abbey. There is a small bar near the church.

Interesting gem overlooking the Adriatic. The cloisters in the back make for a wonderful evening stroll back in time. It's not busy, so you can really take your time. Don't miss the moon door in the rear. The art work is really interesting.

A very beautiful ancient Monastery...A place is silence and prayer..

Some years ago I visited this place. My great grandparents were from Rocca San Giovanni and I had a dream to be there one day. My dream came true, it was the unforgettable.

A beautiful Abbey with an excellent cafe and gardens to walk around. A wedding was a real treat to see and a perfect setting for a happy occasion. Fantastic views of surrounding mountains, countryside and coastline.

Beautiful spectacular view of the seaside from the monastery. One of my favourite spots. Lovely bar just on the side of it too.

The grounds are beautiful and we'll maintained. Beautiful panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea. Peaceful and serene.

Layers and layers of history, and great views over the Abruzzian coast all the way to Puglia.

A beautiful abbey which is well worth the visit. It's very common for local people to get married here and then have their wedding reception in the Castel Di Septe

Scenic abbey overlooking the Costa dei trabocchi (old fishermen's installations). Next to it a great terras with restaurant bar, with decent pizza's and typical arrosticini
