The monumental complex of Sant'Anna dei Lombardi, also known as Santa Maria di Monteoliveto, contains within it works of inestimable historical-artistic value and is considered a true temple of sixteenth-century Neapolitan and Tuscan painting and sculpture. The most famous room by far is the Old Sacristy, considered a small Sistine chapel in the heart of Naples, for the vault frescoed with allegories of the virtues and constellations, created by the well-known Arezzo painter Giorgio Vasari in 1545. Another masterpiece that strikes with its suggestion and realism is certainly the Lamentation over the Dead Christ, a group of life-size terracotta statues created in 1492 by the Modenese sculptor Guido Mazzoni.

Beautiful church with so much history and art ranging from renaissance to baroque. The sculptures and the frescoes are simply immaculate. I was astounded by the hall of Vasari and the sculptures of Mazzoni depicting Jesus's mourning.
I absolutely recommend paying for the guided tour at the crypt (Flora era bravissima) as it has an incredible story of how Neapolitan aristocrats (Partenopei) were buried in the past. It's also the only crypt in Southern Italy that has intact frescoes.

Brilliant visit, to the most amazing and surprising church and museum. The crypt is an absolute must! Not very well known, but hopefully not for long. The guides are extremely knowledgeable and very friendly! Highly recommended!

Totally worth a stop, pay for the 8 Euro tour of the chapels and the crypt. You get a guide in Italian or English as desired, and very friendly and knowledgeable. Flora was great!

Extraordinary and peaceful.
The works inside by Benedetto da Maiano , Antonio Rossellino and Giorgio Vasari make the church one of the most important testimonies of the Tuscan Renaissance in Naples

Absolutely worth the 6 euros. This beautifully restored church is full to the brim with stunning frescos, statues and ceilings. We were treated to in depth tours of the chapels and crypt. Benedetta was our crypt guide and she was wonderful; friendly and passionate about the history behind the whole place. I wish I got more names because everyone else was just as kind and helpful. Fully recommend!

Beautiful monumental complex cast in the Naples' oldest heart. The most impressive component is the old Sacristy whose vaulted roof is completely decorated by frescos by the famous 1500 Italian architect and artist Giorgio Vasari. Both sides of the nave are beautifully decorated by gorgeous wooden inlays with golden frames. Further chapels with noticeable marble works and paintings makes this monumental complex definitely a must see during a visit to Naples.

Me and my husband visited Napoli and this beautiful church at the beginning of September. We could not be more lucky to have Flora as our guide. The place is magnificent and she made our tour even more interesting. Her knowledge and passion as a guide was remarkable. Thank you so much for your time, Flora. We had lovely time with you. While walking around the city. I passed by this church. A lovely guide asked me on the street if I was interested in viewing the place. You can enter the place for free and look around but you can also view, some other spaces and the crypt for a cheap price (8 euro) . In the price you get access to some beautiful rooms with an audio guide. At the end of the audio tour you get a guide who takes you to the back of the altar and the crypt. You get a good explanation about what you see.
At the time I was there (in the afternoon), there was barely any people visiting.

Definitely worth the time when you visit naples.

Very interesting history with some excellent art (notably The Sacristy, with Vasari ceiling), grotesque crypt and very knowledgeable and helpful guides. We'll worth a visit - should be in more guides to Naples.

The introduction of the staff was proffesional, extremely well organised and synchronised with other visitors. Signora Flora explained in narrative way the most important historical fact, connected with artistic streams and interaction to florentine arts. Congratulations to the concept and proffesionality of the staff.
