Probabilmente la più antica porta di Ravenna, anteriore all'anno mille; dopo avere subito gravi danni a seguito di una battaglia, venne restaurata fino all'assetto definitivo che risale al 1613, quando era cardinale legato Domenico Rivarola. Deve il nome al monastero di San Mamante che sorgeva nei pressi è che venne abbattuto nel cinquecento
