Temple of Olympian Zeus

Amazingly well preserved temple, much better looking than Acropolis in Greece. It's smaller but kept and restaured really nicely. Well worth the entrance fee about 10 euros.

The Valley of the Temples is the most important complex of ancient Greek temples outside Greece. Under the rule of the Carthaginians and the Romans, splendid temples sprang up one after another. Because of this, this valley town has also won the reputation of "Valley of Temples". Sicily, as a transportation fortress on the Mediterranean Sea, has always been the focus of political power struggles, with frequent wars, and many temple buildings were damaged to varying degrees during the war. Due to its relatively remote location, the Temple of the Valley has been perfectly preserved, and its integrity even surpasses the ancestor of the ancient Greek complex, the Temple of Athens itself. In the archaeological zone of Agrigento, there are more than 20 relics, but only 7 of them can be identified. The degree of integrity varies.

Reading previous reviews, I was not sure what to expect. The place is, however, well worth a visit. The temple of Zeus is unfortunately the least preserved albeit the biggest temple there. However, there are slightly better preserved temples and the whole complex of the Valley of Temples gives one an interesting insight into the history of the island. Tickets are €13.50 for adults (Summer 2023), kids go free. Take plenty of fluids with you and best to have cash if you want to buy a snack or a souvenir. And — whatever they say at the car park, you don’t need a taxi, one needs to complete a circle anyway to see everything, and the distance is manageable (came with 7 and 11 y/o kids on a pretty hot day)

The biggest Temple in the Valley of Temples in Agrigento. Unfortunately it traces only as a ruins and you'll need to imagine in order to be impressed. Massive basements of the columns and quite huge statues of titans (Telomenas - more than 2 meters tall) are probably the best preserved parts of the temple.
