Castello Malaspina

Fun! We greatly enjoyed exploring the castle and town at night and dawn--spooky atmosphere at night, great light & cool temps at dawn. The staff were very helpful and friendly (even though overworked). Without notice, they were able to accommodate dietary needs at breakfast (gluten-free bread, vegetarian options), and get us a nearby dinner reservation at a popular restaurant on short notice. They even gave us a private 1 hour tour in English to accommodate our schedule, even though they were clearly very busy. If you're coming by public transit, I recommend taking a taxi not the bus. Also, if you're 2 people booking the family room (Pappagelli) and want both rooms, verify in advance. Castello Malaspina was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Italy. Thank you!

I could write a long review, but I will keep it short and sweet. The castle and it's views of the sea and mountains are unforgettable. Drinks on the terrace overlooking the sea are some of the best views in Italy. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. We were giving the keys to the castle and were encouraged to explore its history and it's "spirits" both during the day and at night. Bianca (the cat, not the spirit), was the cherry on top of the experience. She would follow us around the castle as our protector and tour guide. As a yearly visitor of Tuscany, I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I will definitely be returning and making it a yearly visit. I will give this stay a 11/10 because of Bianca the cat!

This was by far the most unique accomodation experience we ever had. The castle is beautiful and well restaurated. We were amazed during our full one day stay. Just note is an castle so the climate control by itself is decent but there is ofcourse no airco and some stairs to move around. The parking facilities are also quite close. The view was stunning, the staff super friendly and roaming the castle is great. It's surprisingly affordable as well. As semi-budget traveller we wouldn't usually check accommodations of these sort. We happy to stumble upon.

The only easy way to improve the sleeping experience is that they add a fan. It does get quite hot

I absolutely love this place! We've visited the Castle for the umpteenth time now, and as always, it was wonderful: amazing location, breathtaking views, lovely and very helpful stuff <3, delicious breakfasts! We're so happy that we could stay at the Castle.

The BEST bed and breakfast I’ve ever had the chance of visiting. Without a doubt unique in its historical glory. The service is outstanding, one feels like a royal when a guest. Breakfast is great, generous and tasty. The ladies working here are friendly and really go out of their way to make your stay as good as possible. I would highly highly recommend staying here. The area is great for hiking and Lucca and Pisa are approximately an hour drive by car.

Our stay at Castello Malaspina was definitely one of the highlights of our summer holiday. From the welcome by the very friendly and helpful staff, the gigantic historic room with very dated but charming bathtub, the authentic tasteful breakfast to the guided tour with some true horrifying stories and the opportunity to wander around the entire castle by ourselves. Even during the night....! I will always remember my daughter asking 'mum, do you have the keys to the castle?'. I must give this magnificent place the best review but I hope it will not be overloaded by tourist crowds.

Just amazing! At this place you'll get the full, real castle experience! You'll sleep in old rooms with authentic furniture, you'll have a bathroom the size of which will make you feel like a king, and you can explore the castle as much as you like, day and night! Most amazingly, you'll enjoy breakfast in the old eating halls, using tables you wouldn't even be allowed to touch in other places!

If you like castles, knights, or the medieval period in general, make sure to stop here and spend a night or two!

Such a unique and delightful experience! This place hasn't been commercialized and retains its old world charm. With the windows open on this Italian hill top, I had some of the best sleep of my entire visit to Europe. The breakfast was absolutely outstanding, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

It is a historic castle and we toured it as a business group. The location is very nice and there was a lady guide who provided the information about history of castle, the owners and their families, including some myths. The castle is well.preseeved . We had some snacks and drinks and the service was really good. We were told that there are rooms available for overnight stay and total cost is around Euro 1,200 for eight rooms.

what can I say: simply wonderful and adventurous. we stayed there for 2 nights. you can explore the castle at any time, day or night. the staff were as courteous and helpful as I have rarely experienced. If you are looking for something really special and steeped in history, you have come to the right place! thank you for this experience and it was certainly not our last time

Exceptional experience and incredible insight into a tunnel in the history of this gorgeous castle. Well-maintained. Rich stories. Detailed focus. Immense amounts of work to bring this 928 years old castle back to life! Quiet. Tranquility. Inspiring. Missionary work. Grateful to all who contributing to this amazing work!

This is a fairy tale place - it's like living in a museum. The views, the room, the staff, the breakfast and everything in between was top notch. It wasn't just a stay - it was an entire experience in a medieval castle! Absolutely fantastic!

We slept in this castle 2 nights. It was a very interesting experience! We got the keys and could walk thought the whole castle even in the night. :) Breakfasts were really good and nicely served.

A romantic, wonderful and impressive area. the castle to stay is an experience and absolutely worth it. The staff was extremely friendly and give you extremely great tips away from the tourist crowd. I can recommend it there! Thank you for the great stay in fosdinovo <3

Wow what a special experience. So much fun exploring the castle and having it almost all to ourselves. One of my favourite stays ever. Sylvia and Adina - who serve breakfast - are super nice and helpful!

Wonderful castle with intriguing stories. Lovely rooms, beautiful views. The guide tried to tell us as mocht as he could in Inglish. We had a wonderful tour and enjoyed it very much.

Had a lovely stay here with my father. The castle is beautiful and the room had an astonishing view. The pricing was really good. Hotel is great for a retreat and to get back to basics. Beautiful views, nice room and really nice staff. Furthermore there is a really good trattoria only 1 min walk from the castle.

What an experience! By booking a room at this b&b, you literally have the whole castle (which is also a museum) to yourself! We felt like royal children there, just running through the castle, exploring it with constant awe. A really really unique stay!
