Sperlinga Castle

An amazing place, well worth going out of your way to get here. The photos can't really do it justice. Carved out of rock and used for many hundred (thousand?) years, the fortress really began to take shape in the Norman period.

Be sure to wear sturdy shoes with a grip, as there are some steep sections. The climb to the top is worth it for the 360 degree view. Allow for at least an hour to get a good look around.

And, yes, you have to buy your entrance ticket at the bat next door.

You need to go to the littler bar at the piazza next to the castle to purchase your entry tickets. Really friendly people!

5 euros a ticket, but worth every cent! Make sure to get at the cafe/ bar just outside. What an incredible castle, very high with lots of history. Amazing views at the top.

Beautiful place! Buy your ticket at the bar bellow the castle and enjoy! One of the most interesting place in the area with all the troglodyte houses carve in the mountain.

We arrived from the direction of Catania and the road is so-so. Nice place with a nice atmosphere. It is definitely worth to enter the castle (ticket eur 5).If you are with kids keep an eye on them, some parts of the castle don't have handrails or railing. There is a quiet large parking lot right under the castle. Opening hours are updated only on Facebook.
Watch out for tourist traps!

What an amazing discovery in the Center of Sicily. So much history here.-cave homes, the Norman castle where the Sicilian (French) Vespers hid out and made their last desperate stand in the 1200's, WW2 Allied route. Don't miss this place.

Amazing view but not for anyone that doesnt like heights. Tricky steps so be careful.
