I am always very inspired by the life and teachings of St. Francis Asissi. The Basillica captures his life stories well. Highly recommended.

Amazing basilica build around the Porciuncula, a small chapel by St Francis

What a stunning basilica. Major restoration works taking place at the moment so lots of frescos and statues were covered and not accessible but the parts that have already been restored are stunningly beautiful. Was fortunate to go when a service was just about to start. Although I cannot speak Italian the wonderful singing of the friars was very moving.

The basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli is a Roman Catholic rite church located in Assisi . It has the dignity of a papal basilica and inside there is the Porziuncola , the chapel where Francis of Assisi gathered in prayer , and for this reason the center of Franciscan spirituality. On top of the facade of the temple stands the statue of the Madonnain gilded bronze modeled by Colasanti and cast by the Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry of Florence .

One of the two most impressive and important Basilica of the region. A must see even for non-Catholics. It is an astounding monument to the dedication of man to a higher ideal than our collective selves. A place of immersive contemplation and meditation.

Absolutely beautiful! It has a church inside a church. And a special place in the spot where St. Francis of Assisi actually died singing. The are doing renovations so you can't see everything. But there is still plenty of beautiful things to see.

I was extremely impressed when I walked into this beautiful basilica and found inside of it “La Porciuncula” (small church decorated with frescoes by Giotto where St. Francis of Assisi used to pray) and the “Capella del Transito” where he died.

Amazing church for inside but also outside, it's really huge and it's place in a square, so you can have a good view since no constructions arround. Inside there's another church under the dome. I've never seen such a thing!

Whenever in Assisi this Basilica is a must see. Unfortunately it is under reconstruction yet you still get to see the beauty of the building itself as all paintings are covered or removed for restoration.

Overwhelmingly beautiful complex filled with extraordinary works of art. The side chapels off the central
Nave rival the porziuncola and the Cappella del Rosario with their impressive fresco cycles by a variety of artists.

Porziuncola (small part of)chappel, St. Francis was told to fix, is here. It's remarkable to find this historic Catholic structure within the Basilica. Along with the religious art and iconography this stop is worth your time. Walking distance from the train depot. No photos or video once inside!

The portiuncula is beautiful, stop and pray. Lovely sense of centuries of prayer and worship.

Being in Assisi and admiring the Basilica of St. Francis, it's definitely worth the 20-minute drive (approx. 8 km) to see this beautiful basilica. The uniqueness of this building lies in the fact that there is another church inside the basilica. The tiny stone chapel at the heart of the basilica dates back to the 10th century and was rebuilt by St. Francis.

This is the place where Saint Francis died on the 3rd of october. Moreover in the little church, called Porziuncola, inside the basilica, the Saint receiced the vocational call. He was used to stop here to pray. In this place he received Saint Chiara and his brothers to create his order. You should also visit the place for his architectural art that is amazing.

This Francis-linked site is a bit off the main trek, but should be considered essential and is actually rather easy to reach, particularly if coming in by train. It is an easy 1/2 mile stroll from the station.

Once there you will not only find the stone chapel that Francis and followers rebuilt at the start of his ministry, but a chapel marks the place of his death.

The complex is vast with interesting displays of creches, some focus on telling the story of Clair, and a large bookshop.

Connection between the train station and Assisi is available by a city bus ride - buy inexpensive tickets from the helpful shop at the station - that transports one near the top of town where gravity can lead you through the town.

I have always loved this basilica for the love the people had for St Francis. They built this to protect his little church. A beautiful little chapel. Also, the doves nest in the hallway between the basilica and the rose garden. Amazing and heartwarming.

What an amazing little original church. It so suited St Francis. The elaborate one built around it, to protect it, would not have earned his approval. Nevertheless it is well worth the visit.

The edifice which contains the church within a church, which commemorates the spot of death of St Francesco of Assisi. The Porziuncola is 9th century architecture, whereas the church is much later.

What a stunning and beautiful Basilica that honors the conversion of St Francis of Assisi- a church in a church! The small church which was abandoned and surrounded by forest in the days of St Francis is now safely being preserved within the Basilica di Santa Maria de Angels. The paintings downstairs past the rose garden and near the museum store are fabulous with vibrant colors and realistic features. Fantastic!!
