Parco Naturale Regionale di Bracciano Martignano

It is the park of the volcanoes, or rather of the volcanoes that are no longer there. Bracciano is a large and man-made farm, extending much less Martignano, the two lakes occupy the bottom of a basin linked to the activity of the ancient Sabatino volcano, which reached its peak around 400,000 years ago.

But of a past made of explosions and earthquakes today there is only a placid landscape of hills covered with woods, crowned by the mirrors of water where sailboats and canoes parade.

The lakes are an excellent destination for birdwatching. Walking on the banks or from a boat, binoculars in hand, you can observe many species of birds including coots, ducks even of a certain rarity such as the Turkish fistione and the ferruginous duck, species with northern distribution such as the scythe and the strolaga mezzana , birds of prey like the brown kite that nests in the surroundings. Among the fish that live in the lakes there are pike, perch, rudd and ruella.

Anguillara Sabazia, Trevignano Romano and the same Bracciano dominated by the mighty Orsini-Odescalchi Castle are the towns that rise on the shores of Lake Bracciano. The atmosphere of Martignano could not be more different, immersed in the solitude of the fields and reachable only on foot along a road that goes down to the bottom of the green valley that houses it.

Love this quiet lakeside. You need to drive to the car park, pay for your parking space and shuttle and then ride on a rickety bus to the lake. You can't drive down, it is not permitted. Limited sunbeds as it is after all a reserve. Shady trees available but beware of the ants.
Careful of the water it gets out of depth quickly. Serviced with a decent outdoor cafe and appalling portaloos. They should build some toilets and keep them clean. I know they probably want to reduce the footprint but the current ones are grim.
All said, I do like this area.

What a great landscape view before sunset it has. A quiet place that you can enjoy your moment with beloved ones.

Cool place, amazing castle you can visit at the cost of €8. The views are amazing to take some amazijg photos. Not so far from the center. Yummy food!

Then at the end of the road there's the lake with its fresh water!

A must visit at summer!

This is a very special place. Beautiful lake next to the bigger Bracciano lake. It's a bit difficult to access. You need to leave the car on a parking lot and a small bus takes you there. It costs money but it's reasonable.

Lovely nature to walk around in. Nice spots for food. Makes a great day tour, not to far from Rome.

Nice place. Very quiet and peaceful. The waters of this lake are really transparent and clean. I spent here 4 days and swam every day. And it is very close to Rome.

It's something else, it's a great escape with extraordinary scenery. The lake is magnificent, also the town of Trevignano where we were visiting.

A wonderful place which offers some quiet time away from the touristic streets of Rome. You can easily get there by train within an hour.

Great place to go on an excursion if you living of staying in Rome. Water was crystal clear when I visited in October 2016.

No doubts you have to visit. Time is slowing down here, the water is cristal clear and food excellent out of turistic tracks
