Casa Tolomei

Lovely place to stay with wonderful hosts. Right in the center of everything in Bagni di Lucca but feels quiet and out of the way. Historic rooms with old frescoes and original floors? Great patio that was our go to spot.

Casa Tolomei is a really unique and beautiful property bursting with original features and wonderful frescos everywhere you look. It has been lovingly and painstakingly restored to incorporate modern lighting, heating and bathroom suites with enormous baths, without losing any of its antique palacial charm.

Its charming owners, Laura and Andy, could not have done more to facilitate our stay and make us feel welcome. They responded extremely quickly to a variety of emails on various topics, and even went out of their way to give us lifts to the train station.

The only problem with this accomodation was that because we paid before hand online, it was very difficult to give the owners any part of the tip they so richly deserved.

Lessons in Italian are fun with Laura at Casa Tolomei a lovely setting and if we didnt already have a house in the area it would be nice to try a stay in this beautiful house

Big disappointment! The photos of this place on AirBnB, vrbo and casatolomei.com are completely outdated and are not representative of the current condition of Casa Tolomei. The courtyard is untidy and overgrown. The alleged inground pool that was new in 2022 doesn't exist. The above ground pool is also gone. You are greeted by unsightly and smelly garbage bins lining the exterior of the villa. The inside of the villa is old, tired and dirty. The living room furniture is falling apart. The sheets and towels are threadbare. The sheets were not even washed for our arrival. We spent 30 euro at the lavanderia washing urine and sweat stained sheets from the previous renter. The owner was never available to meet us and sent someone else to address missing and broken appliances. When asked when was the last time she was inside the villa she evaded the question yet refused to believe us about the condition of the villa. She is charging 5-star prices for 1-star accommodations. Avoid this place! I would give it negative stars if I could. One star is too generous. The place is mismanaged and poorly maintained. The only good thing is its location in the heart of La Villa.
