Just behind two other catacombs (San Callisto & San Sebastiano), managed by SVD Fathers, is a beautiful place of history and hosts the tombs of Sts. Nereus & Achilleus! Very clear explanation given in English.

Well worth a visit the lady that showed us around was really knowledgeable on the tour.

The person leading the tour in the catacombs was obviously well educated. She described all of the issues and benefits a will as the physical makeup of the structure. There are no bodies left as they were buried about 1700 years ago. It was welk done and respectful.

A definite must see in Rome. Guides required as there are 4 levels and hundreds of miles of Catacombs interconnected outside the exterior walls of Rome.

It's a bit far away from the city centre, but worth it. It's way less crowded than the saint Callixtus one. The ticket includes a guided tour from the catacombs staff, as it's easy to get lost in there. Would definitely recommend. Has this gift shop too

Lorenzo was a great guide. He gave deep and knowledgeable info throughout the tour. Pity one can’t go down into the catacombs by one self however it is understandable given the amount of destruction and littering tourists and vandals have done across time.
Also the likelihood of one getting lost is quite probable.
Overall a decent, although fast, experience.

Beautiful sacred place, pictures inside the catacombs were not allowed for obvious reasons. This place is a must if you are interested in the burial history of the Catholics and pagans.

Really humbled to see the extent to which earlier Christians went to continue their faith. God was with them 🙏🏾

These catacombs are over 2000 years old. I’ve seen a lot of reviews say there are no bones, but our tour guide clearly pointed them out to us. While it is not full skeletons anymore because of grave robbers, which they called barbarians, there are definitely still fragments there. It was very humbling to see how so many were hurried in small graves in the wall. There are many that were left untouched. As the mortality rate was very high below 5 years of age, you will see many baby and small child sized spots. It was sad to see the mosaics that have been cracked off of the wall, but there are many left untouched still. My pictures are were they were allowed and this area was used as an air raid shelter in wwii. They left a large plaque stating so to those in the future.

These catacombs were a fun experience. We did a private tour and it was very informative. I love that the catacombs of this nature focuses on the symbolism and history of Christian martyrs and saints that were buried here. It's extremely interesting to see the different symbols and how they were buried during a time when their religion was not legal.

The catacombs were on my "must see" list while in Rome. It was a really cool experience, being underground, walking through these man-made tunnels & tombs that go back almost 2000 years (starting around 2nd century, AD). The bones have largely been removed; I didn't see any...but the walls and rooms formerly held thousands of dead. The tunnels stretch for miles, although the tour only covers a fraction of them. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly - very willing to take questions and offer personal thoughts. I think most people would find this experience really interesting, even if they're not particularly interested in history. BTW - there are quite a few catacombs in Rome, Domitilla isn't the only one.

We had an amazing female guide I apologize I didn't get her name. A wealth of information of the early Christians in Rome and also of the sites shown in the catacombs. Highly recommend!!!

Note you do need to be with a guide, included in the price. Last guided tour is about 1.15 hours prior to close.

If you are bringing kids... actually watch them and make sure they are respecting the catacombs. Don't let your kids run wild and use some of their toys to try to carve holes in the walls. This is a burial place. Not a playground. Dead people still remain here.

AMAZING PLACE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

These catacombs are an absolute must if you're visiting Rome! There are over 12km of tunnels going four levels deep filled with 26,000+ ancient tombs. Really a unique experience, and something that really transports you back in time. Note: Photos are not permitted in the catacombs.

Pro tip: You can only enter the catacombs with a tour!

This is really a spot to be sure to visit, and really best seen with a personal guide to explain what you are seeing and the history behind it all...the guides really bring it to life. If you found this review helpful please tap a thumbs up to let me know - thanks.

A must visit location when in Rome. It is a 20 minute drive from Trevi Fountain or a 1 hour walk. You have to buy tickets in person.
The location is very historic and the catacombs are vast. They have tours daily and easy to visit with their guides. The tour was amazing and the catacombs are a sight to see.

We had a guidef tour - the guide was a very nice and professional lady! i can recommend this place as an activity for people who are interessted in history or religion. I wouldn't recommend this place for children - it will be boring for them.

I had an incredible experience at the Catacombs of Domitilla. I highly suggest taking a guided tour. My guide gave us great contextual information and helped me understand the history of Christianity in Rome and the birth and existence of the catacombs.

Of course there is the incredible highlight of this particular series of catacombs — the painting St. Peter and St. Paul, which is the oldest fresco image of them in the world. It’s amazing that it is left exposed — in other countries something like this might be under bulletproof glass.

The entrance to this site is slightly out of the way, so be sure you prepare to get there. Taking a taxi or bus is probably easiest. You can also get here by electric scooter or bicycle, though it’s slightly risky. Walking might take quite a while. Hydrate and use the bathroom before going under!
