Antica Osteria Rugantino

Great food - we got the rugatino because we got tired of carbonara by that time. The oxtail was also great, very flavorful and tender. Not too touristy and no line.

Their wine list was very extensive but you can’t just get one glass of wine, you have to get an entire bottle (there are small bottles though). Pasta was fresh and chicory was great. I was thankful that they actually had a vegetable on the menu because we were lacking that from other places. They were also very accommodating and were patient with our questions.

This place is the spot!
Me and my partner have been in Rome for 5 days so far and this meal stood out drastically,
The atmosphere was amazing, a small but busy and cosy place! Staff were amazing and couldn’t be more accommodating (bare in mind we speak little to no Italian)
The food? We tried the meat & cheese platter And was not disappointed, a board loaded with cured meats and cheeses full of flavour, no more needs to be said,
We both had a pasta main which was equally as good as the starter.
At this point we were extremely full, but knew we’d be disappointed in ourselves if we didn’t have a dessert, so, we decided it was only right to have the dessert platter too,
Tiramisu, Limoncello mousse and a cherry and ricotta tart, which neither of us were sure about but it ended being both our favourites.

This place is by far the best place we’ve been too and I couldn’t recommend it more.
(Beer selection is also very good)

We absolutely loved our dinner. Loved that they served small sharing portions so you are able to try lots of different authentic Italian dishes.

This restaurant is amazing. I chose to book here because I wanted to avoid tourist traps and experience authentic Italian food and was so glad we did. We had the four pastas followed by meatballs. The pastas were the best we had in Rome and the meatballs were incredible. So much flavour in the food.

Our waiter was so friendly and funny and we felt so welcome.

If you want to high quality authentic Italian dishes, this is the place to go!

One of my favorite restaurants in Roma, the carbonara is just incredibly TASTY. Ox tail is a must try👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.

This little restaurant came highly recommended by those who have previously been to Rome. It did not disappoint.

The food and atmosphere was fabulous. Staff are very attentive and energetic.

We decided on share plates as this was our last night in Rome and we wanted to sample the best Rome had to offer.

We had such a lovely time here for dinner! We started with the cheese and honey platter…highly recommend it! The portion was huge for 2 people; it could have been shared between 4 people. Next we got the fettuccine with tomato sauce and the carbonara - both were fantastic. We also got the meatball sampler; this was good, but not our favorite meatballs ever. Lastly, we got ricotta with cocoa and sugar, and this was amazing. We really enjoyed the food, the wine, and the atmosphere, and the service was just superb. Definitely a great place to try, and we were able to request a reservation same day without a problem!

Came across this little gem by chance. Lovely place. Eduardo provided us with friendly, smiley and knowledgeable service. The food was delicious. Took the pasta platter to share which gives you a bit of the best. And one of the places that doesn't charge you a default service charge.
I totally recommend this place. We were lucky to get a spot outside for lunch. I'd say it's better to reserve.

A MUST in Rome! This place offers delicious apps, pastas and meats that you can taste all of instead of figuring out what to try! The concept on having flight food items is GENIUS! We loved all of it! I would HIGHLY recommend coming here. Wine is also underrated and gave us one of our top wines so far in Italy. Service was high class and very attentive! 11 out of 10 stars

Absolutely delicious and genuine Roman food, the staff is wonderful. I can’t believe the negative reviews about the way they were treated, because I was treated wonderfully on my first visit and was treated even better the second time. While I was sitting here on my first visit I said to my wife that this feels like a real Roman restaurant and I was correct , definitely the best food I had in Rome. As I was leaving they gave me a bottle of the house wine. My advice is go there to eat and enjoy this amazing place.

The food was seriously so so good! We had both (starter and main) a plate to share.. not to little, not to much. Staff was very friendly. (Thank Leonardo for your amazing service). And also important, because this I haven't seen this a lot in whole of Italy, a clean toilet! 100% recommended.

Perfect dinner! I was nervous when I had to pay €75 to make a reservation, but no regrets! We were 30 minutes late when we couldn’t get a taxi, but they held our table and greeted us warmly. My family of 5 shared the cheese antipasti platter, the meatball tasting, and the pasta tasting. The portions were generous. One pasta tasting is enough for 3-4 people, even hungry Americans. The service was excellent, like dining in a friend’s home. It was a relaxed, pleasant, tasty meal that we didn’t mind drawing out for 2 hours. I’m sad it was our last night in Rome, because I want to go back.

Was conflicted about giving it a 4 because of one dish we really didn't like, but it was our fault for "betting" on something new and the waiter did "warn" us and gave a small bottle of wine as compensation, so... I'll give it a 5 with a note 🙂

So don't come here if you are in a hurry, starving or "hangry" 😉

So...

The place:
Really charming, warm and cosy. Service as well - welcoming and friendly.

The food:
we had some meatballs with tomato sauce for starters which were great (go well with the bread you get, which isn't free unfortunately (3eur).

Main dish was Rigatoni with oxtail tomato sauce - was simple but good.

The dish we really didn't like (again, we were warned) was "Trippa" which is basically the inside of a cow's belly. Unless you already know it and love it, I advise against it!

Dessert - amazing Tiramisu! Highly recommend.

UNBELIEVABLE. This restaurant deserves much more than 4.4! The food is simply DELICIOUS, my favourite restaurant in Rome! The concept is smart: why choose when you want to eat everything? Just taste a bit of everything! Anything we ate there was simply made of high quality products. The staff is joyful and seems to truly love working there. It is simply the passion of food shared by the staff to the clients. If there is one place that I need to recommend to friends, that’s the one. If you’re hesitant, just go and enjoy!
The only minus I could find is that the tasting plate of pasta did not have enough veggie options but I think it is worth making an exception to the veggie diet. ENJOY!

We originally went to this restaurant because of the responses of the owner to the negative reviews. His responses to the scientists are so funny that I had to eat at the restaurant. We were expecting to pay a deposit for our booking and we were not disappointed as the lady asked for €15 deposit per person for our booking. She was quite surprised how much we enjoyed giving the deposit (because we read about people moaning about it in the reviews).

But what we got was the best pasta dishes and the best meatballs of our one month trip throughout Italy. Sing with the best service. We tried all the dishes they have which give you a sampling of every dish they make.

We actually went back to eat here again the next day because we fell in love with the Rugantino pasta and the amatriciana meatballs. The pasta is cooked so perfectly. The waiters are also a highlight and have great humor.

Only pity is we forgot to try the tiramisu. Great restaurant.
