Parroquia de San Martino

The church of S. Martino in Chinzica is documented for the first time in 1066, located along the route of the Carraia Maiore , i.e. the main road entering the city from the south (now via S. Martino).
The building is a large factory with a single nave, with a not very pronounced transept. The preserved church is related to the complete reconstruction of the late medieval period on the site of the church already attested in the second half of the 11th century, by Count Bonifacio Novello della Gherardesca, who transformed the rectory into a female monastery.
The facade of the church, in white marble, is composed of a first order divided into five blind arches, with the access portal in the centre, while the upper part of the facade is the result of seventeenth-century restoration interventions. The rest of the building is completely built in brick, with the apse divided by pilasters that create spaces inside which there are three oculi, a larger central one and two lateral ones, defined with bands of shaped bricks, relating to the 17th century restorations .

Malgrado gli interventi seicenteschi vi sono tracce meravigliose che ne rivelano l'origine medievale.

E' una bella chiesa,entrando dentro si sente che siamo in una chiesa antica,parliamo dell'anno 1000 poco dopo,se fate una visita a pisa entrando a piedi dal quartier di San Martino andateci perchè secondo me merita molto.

Antígua iglesia del quartiere San Martino, importante por la presencia en urna de Santa Bona, patrona de peregrinos y de Hostess. Bellos afrescos del S. XII y pintura barroca pisana.

Ci sono dei bellissimi affreschi da vedere..merita una visita
