What an unforgettable experience - Canyoning. You truly experience the canyon in a different way. Francesco and Salvatore are amazing. They give you all the attention so that your experience is the best and teach you. They are also super patient. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure!

Most people come to this part of Sicily for Etna & Taormina but you should definitely make time for Alcantara river gorge exploration with Francesco & Sicily Green folks.

First off the natural site itself is movie-set beautiful. An Icy blue river slices a narrow snaky gorge through cooled lava flows.

Most people that visit Alcantara spend their time bathing in the wider, open part of river where the water slows down in the shallows.

To explore up river where the gorge narrows and rocks create white water swirls, you need experienced guides and a helluva lot of safety equipment: helmets, life jackets (for safety as well as buoyancy), safety harness and ropes, and not one but two layers of neoprene wetsuits - protection from rock abrasions but also well-needed insulation as the waters are ice cold even in the height of summer.

We gear up at Sicily Green’s shop just 5 mins down the road and descend into the gorge. After briefing n instructions we start trekking up the river. Easy at first then slowly gathering more water resistance.

The further up we go, the stronger the force of the water, more scrambling on rocks and more “superman leaping” across water is needed.

After a hour, we chill at a beautiful sheltered spot in where the lava has hollowed out a natural cave beach. And just marvel at wonder of what nature has made.

The most fun bit is the return journey : where we are thought how to float our way down river back to where we started.

I’d researched different companies offering trips to Alcantara and I’m glad we chose Sicily Green - especially after our little group of 5 guests and 2 guides (in full neoprene safety gear) passed a large group essentially wearing rubber fly fishing overalls with helmets.

Note: it’s not easy to get to Motta Camastra by public transport, you will need to self-drive or taxi for a significant part of the way. Francesco helped connect me with a driver at very reasonable rates

I went with my boyfriend, and this adventure was one of the best nature experiences we’ve ever had! As a beginner, I felt incredibly safe with the instructors, and I was so thankful to discover such beautiful surroundings without any other tourists. I would highly recommend everyone visiting Sicily to try canyoning at Sicily Green Adventures - you will thank yourself for doing it! 🙏

Ciccio and Turi have been professional and excellent guides. The communication was easy, preparation and organisation excellent. The material (wetsuits etc) all in new conditions, clearly well taken care of. We remained impressed by the professionalism during the canyoning tour in Alcantara, their knowledge of the area and canyoning techniques. We went with many canyoning organisations before in other places and can say these guides are focused on your safety (and fun)! Above all, we got to experience the Gole of Alcantara in a unique manner, with no one around but us to enjoy the beauty of the place, as they bring you in the place a bit further away of people. On top of this, the same day we receive tons of fotos and videos of our adventure. We highly recommend to go with them for a fun and safe experience!!

It was a great adventure to do body rafting with Francesco. The river is beautiful, you can feel the power of nature. Thanks to a guide who seems to know every rock under the water, if you follow the instructions nothing bad can happen.

If you want to experience a great adventure choose Francesco as on the way back we encountered a lot of 15+ people groups, waiting in queue who didn't look happy.

We had a blast experiencing the Alcantara Canyon with our guide Francesco (Ciccio) on July 4th, 2022.
The location is spectacular, and body rafting the river is one of the best ways to explore and enjoy it.
Francesco is a fantastic guide for the simple reason that he is one with the Alcantara Canyon: he knows every rock in the river, every dent in the rocks, and every swirl of the current. The canyon is his element and Ciccio loves it!

He will help with the logistics and be there for and with you at every step and beyond (he gave us tips for our next stop in Taormina)

If I could rate this company 6 or 7 stars I would. Every second of the excursion was filled with fun, adrenaline, team work and information. The instructors went above and beyond anything we could’ve asked for and were super patient with me who wasn’t as fit as them or my partner. You can tell they absolutely love their job. The canyoning was worth every penny and if we’re ever in Sicily again I’m sure we’ll book in for a second time. Thank you Francesco!

This was absolutely the highlight of our six-week holiday! We had Gole Dell'Alcantara entirely to ourselves until the very end of the tour, when we reached the public area. Francesco and Salvatore were knowledgeable, patient and really friendly. Highly recommend the canyoning experience! We're complete novices, but Francesco and Salvatore were supportive and encouraging, and they gave us options throughout. Thank you for the most amazing experience - we loved it!

We did the canyoning/bodyrafting tour with Sicily Green Adventures which we believe was the best thing we could have done to explore the Alcantara Gorge! Not only is it a fantastic way to discover the wonders of nature and the beautiful scenery, but it's also incredibly fun and a real thrill - perfect for every adventurer out there!

We rockclimbed, abseiled, bodyrafted and jumped our way through the gorge, always supported by our fabulous guides Francesco and Turi! They made sure everyone was comfortable at all times, pointing out different ways to proceed on our journey - there was always an option for those wanting to take it a bit slower (which was presumably much appreciated by the young family in our group)!

The most amazing part of the tour was that we were pretty much alone in nature for most of it, which I did not even appreciate until we reached the end of the gorge, where crowds were gathering already.

If you want a more peaceful, scenic way to explore nature whilst also having the adventure of a lifetime I cannot recommend this tour enough!

We were a group of four, and we had such an amazing experience during the Body Rafting activity with Francesco and Turi. They were great in guiding us up and through the river Alcantara. A fantastic afternoon spent body rafting with Roberto, Francesco & Francesco! We had a private tour for 8 (including 4 children aged 10 to 13) and they looked after us so well. Their 10 years of experience really showed. Knowledgeable, reassuring, kind, fun and always safety first. Small groups, great equipment, fluent English. We learned so much about the gorge itself too. The gorge was very busy but they patiently guided us through. The water runs fast and very cold but with the right gear and guidance we always felt safe. Francesco took great panoramic pictures for us. They took their time and we never felt rushed. Brilliant fun and well worth it. Thank you guys, we will see you next year!

We have booked a body rafting tour via Etna Discovery and we were directed to Sicily Green Adventures, which was the best! If you want to spend half day in the Alcantara gorge and learn all about the geological history of the nature and have so much fun walking, climbing, jumping and swimming through the Alcantara River - book with Sicily Green Adventures. The two trained and experienced guides, Roberto & Francesco will take care of you, even if you have cautious thoughts, you will always feel safe. There is enough time to secure everyone, the groups are small enough to respect individual capabilities. Both guides are fluent in Italian, German and English!! Who wants the activity documented, the guides know the (Instagram) spots and record every jump you decide to take! What is special about the two, they also really care about the nature and treat it sustainable and respectful.
