Sinopie Museum

Such an incredible museum that we were not expecting.

The walls are lined with the draft etchings and drawings taken from the Camposanto.

These drawings on stone are enormous and so intricate in their design.

The museum also has coloured mini alfresco upstairs on display

We visited as part of the €10/4 attraction entry ticket.

It also has a great miniature replica of all the main places to see.

Start here on your day visit the area as its housed in the ticket building.

Among all the places surrounding the complex, this is my favorite: the under drawing of the giant fresco reveals the design of the artist, some even have whimsical cartoons that would never be visible in the final product, but now can be seen hundreds of years later.

This museum and the Campo Santo (where the sinopies come from) are the two real gems of the piazza. A wonderful little museum, I spent about an hour and a half here. Incredible stories behind some of the drawings. The museum is very well laid out. I'm very glad that most tourists tend to ignore this place, it means the noise level is reasonable, noone pushes you around and you can enjoy the display at your own pace

Lots of really neat wall sections with 2000+ year old drawings. Pretty neat. Probably had the nicest bathroom I saw in all of Italy.

Went here to get free tickets for the cathedral. Inside the museum is nice with reasonably priced souvenir shop.

I will be forever thankful to Sabrina, her manager and colleagues at the Sinopie Museum. About a week ago, my cat who travels often and well, had a bathroom accident outside the Leaning Tower of Pisa after a long day. As I opened his carrier to remove the diaper, totally out of his character and as if he was suddenly possessed by some spirit, he escaped both the carrier and the leash and sprinted straight into the Sinopie Museum and disappeared under the staircase where ventilation equipment was stored. As I couldn't see him in the dark space under the staircase, I thought I had lost him forever and he would just get lost and starve to death in the ventilation tunnels of the museum. Sabrina and her many colleagues (sorry I don't know their names) not only helped to calm me, but also helped me to eventually locate and rescue my cat. It was a very strange day and I was just so thankful that it was a happy reunion at the end. My cat and I are now back home in the US and I just can't say thank-you enough to the staff members at the Sinopie Museum!

Perfect place to understand how they create paints on wall with old sketchs on walls and as an architectural point, the museum is really well designed

Sinopie museum is known for frescos. Preserved ones. Nice trip.

Really interesting, would definitely recommend doing the rest of the square first for this to make sense.

Very interesting museum if you are interested in history and also in religious history. There are religious stories which are, I think, similar in Christianity and Islam, maybe also in other religions.

Excellent sinopies in that museum. You have to buy a ticket to get in. Visitors are allowed to take non commercial photo without flash light.

Brilliant! Worth watching the clips about the Tower and what's been attempted over the years to stop it from keeling over!!!

Great Museum of the sketches before the frescos were made!

The information of the history, construction and restoration of Pisa tower is very interesting.
