Antica Trattoria A' Taverna

We love this hidden gem, the food is amazing and really brings you back to the local classical Italian flavors. We can’t get enough of their eggplant Parmesan. The restaurant is a bit of a hike through the historical district but it is well worth it. For those with restricted mobility we recommend parking near the top and walking down from the castle ruins (not wheelchair acceptance). Truly a great location for amazing Italian cuisine.

Wow - authentic traditional pasta in a rustic setting. Terrific! Friendly and prompt service, too. We arrived at 7:45p (early by Italian standards) and departed about an hour later as more customers began to arrive. Felt like we were enjoying a meal in the past. Definitely a positive experience.

Wind your way up the stairs of old town Scalea to get to this restaurant; it’s worth it! Food , service and atmosphere were great. You can feel the history around you as you sit outside and wonder what all has transpired in that area over hundreds of years.

Had a wonderful meal here for our first night in Calabria. The staff was very helpful in helping us make choices. The food was so delicious and priced reasonably. We will be back for sure.

Way better than the score would indicate. Fusilli With N'duja is sublime. The pork chop tender and delicious. The staff are super friendly and the old town charm can't be faked. My wife adored the potatoes and peppers. We should have ordered the 3L of house wine. ;) Bring cat treats!

Long waiting, but it's definitively worth it. Abundant traditional home-made dishes. Very calabrian style. Romantic and ancient atmosphere. Ideal for some relaxing time and best italian food.

The food was fantastic. I commented to the owner. Voglio mangiare più ma non posso. I want to eat more but i cant. My wife and I enjoyed our meal and time at this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

Siamo stati ieri sera per caso. Una bellissima scoperta la location e’ particolare antica come si addice ad un luogo tipico, non le solite pizzerie attira turisti… e’ bello assaporare i piatti di una volta.. sono tutti una famiglia… cameriera simpaticissima e sua sorella che cucina veramente brava! Vorrei dire a chi dice che non c’è scelta e che si deve attendere un po’… che non considera il fatto che la pasta è fresca fatta a mano che le cose sono genuine e fatte al momento , le porzioni sono abbondanti e ci sta aspettare un po’ d altra parte siamo in vacanza!!!! Vino buono i fusilli con sugo di capra spettacolari con formaggio produzione propria … gli spaghetti con le alici sublimi, non quello che facciamo noi a casa… altro livello!!! Prezzi super onesti!! W le persone che credono ancora in ciò che fanno!! Complimenti… ah antipasto SUPER!

Siamo stati io e il mio ragazzo a cena nel mese di luglio. Il posto è davvero carino e suggestivo. I piatti sono quelli tipici della cucina calabrese: semplici ma molto curati, buoni ed abbondanti. Il personale è preparato e gentile. Mentre si mangia si è accompagnati da una musica in sottofondo davvero bella e gradevole. Per accedervi la scalinata (classica di scalea vecchia) è abbastanza lunga: fattibile ma consiglio scarpe comode. Torneremo

Bellissimo posto situato nel cuore del centro storico di Scalea. Si ha la sensazione di fare un tuffo nel passato tra le antiche case del paese vecchio. Il cibo è eccellente, con una qualità impeccabile; in particolare, ho apprezzato molto il primo piatto al sugo di capra. Il personale è gentilissimo, simpatico e preparato. Qui si può assaporare la vera Calabria. Il menù è semplice ma eccezionale. Lo consiglio vivamente e ci tornerò sicuramente. Luglio 2024.

Ci siamo imbattuti in questo posto mentre giravamo per i vicoli di Scalea Vecchia e siamo rimasti piacevolmente sorpresi. L'atmosfera era così magica, come se il tempo si fosse fermato. I camerieri sono educati e attenti, i prodotti sono estremamente freschi. Ottimi l'antipasto e la grigliata mista di carne. Amari unici. Ora non vediamo l'ora di tornarci l'anno prossimo.

Location bellissima, nel suo interno, eliminerei un po di oggetti, soprammobili adatti di più a casa mia : ) location si trova nella parte alta di Scalea, una bella passeggiata tra i suoi vicoli molto carini.
Riguardo il prodotto è eccellente, non ci si abbuffa ma porzioni giuste e di buon sapore tipico.
