You MUST eat here if you’re in Volterra. The food was out of this world and the staff was incredibly friend. There are only a few tables so you may have to wait if it’s busy. Promise it’s worth it. I built my own board and I was no disappointed.

Lunchtime, 34 degrees, where to eat in Volterra?

I had the privilege to meet Christian. A Sicilian who was working hard to service the 2-4 tables in the small Paninoteca and me waiting at the counter. He fed me slices of salami🥓 in the meantime. And one more😉.

I decided to sit down and have something to drink🥤 aswell. What a luck I did!

Christian wasn’t only an excellent panini maker, but he was also able to connect his customers, to make them laugh and to make each of us feel extra special with his Italian charmes and humour. 🇮🇹🤩

All of us took pictures to memorize this moment of happiness. 😄

Great Italian sandwich near the Piazza de Priori! This is perfect and affordable at the top of Volterra! Great service and a comfortable place to sit. It is not a large restaurant but the service is incredible and the location is easy to find. It’s perfect. The sandwich, you can order from a menu or build your own. This makes a perfect location for one who loves Italian cuisine or one who is a picky eater! Either way - this is a wonderful choice for lunch! Drinks are also available - with wine and beer to choose! Don’t miss this great little lunch stop!

The guy in there was amazing. A one man panini making machine! The place was full of guests and he had the personality to tend to everyone. And the paninis are truly were delicious. All for a very fair price - the €5 aperols were punchy too!

Sandwich was excellent, they have options of sandwiches or you can select your own. I made my own selections, cheese, artichoke cream and all the vegetables. The sandwich was amazing and very large and very fresh!

I would definitely recommend eating here.

We wanted to order just panini. However there were so many delicious things like formaggi, prosciutto, mortadella, marmellata, verdure, etc that we order a plate with almost everything and actually everything was really great. Excellent. The service was also great. Small and cosy place. Just 6 tables inside. Really recommend it.

New owner, opened just before Easter 2022. Offering different experience to local competitors. Genuinely homemade food, local traditional recipes. Friendly welcome by owner/chef who is fluent in several languages. Small dining area, maximum 12 seating, intimate atmosphere. Superb soups, absolute must try tripe +/ vegetable. We wish her all success.

On one of the many winding streets in Volterra, I accidentally stumbled into the Paninotecca Gallina d’Oro. It was quaint and just what I needed. As I approached, the man behind the counter greeted me and my family with a ciao and warm smile - his wife greeted us soon after. I immediately knew that communication was going to be challenging because my Italian is horrible and their English was limited. While waiting to place my order, I noticed that the man was making a cheese and meat tray - it looked delicious! When I got to the counter I made several hand gestures trying to tell the man that I wanted the same thing, he said ok! I also ordered a Entruschi (Tuscan salami, pecorino, arugula and olive tapenade). He asked me several times if I was sure, I said yea totally!! My family also ordered paninos - he double checked again to make sure we really wanted everything!

It turned out that we ordered a TON of food and I think the gentleman was trying to warn us! Regardless, the food was spectacular! The meat and cheese tray was probably one of the best I’ve ever had - one of the salami selections was cervo (deer) and it melted in your mouth. After the trays, we were all stuffed so we took our paninos to go and had them for dinner. They still tasted great.

I experienced a lot of rudeness while in Italy, but NOT HERE!! This was one of the best and friendliest experiences I had while in Italy — the kindness, care and love that the Soldato’s showed us was one-of-a-kind!

The Soldato’s are the owners and are so welcoming and gracious. If you’re in Volterra, make sure to give them a try!

Posto perfetto per un bel panino tipico, il menù è ben variegato (opzioni vegetariana e vegana incluse) ma si ha anche la possibilità di creare il proprio panino sulla base delle proprie preferenze. Noi abbiamo optato per crearlo noi ed è stata una scelta vincente, lo staff è stato disponibile a consigliarci gli abbinamenti secondo i nostri gusti. Inoltre i prezzi sono bassi, si mangia tanto ad un buon prezzo. A parte il buon cibo e il prezzo, bisogna anche menzionare lo staff super disponibile e cordiale, Christian è stato super simpatico tanto che avevamo pensato di tornare a cena solo per farci un'altra chiacchierata insieme. Consiglio vivamente di andarci. Alla prossima Christian!
