Tomato is the place around Nippori that sells all types of fabrics and cloth used for sewing and handicraft.

All types of accessories are available here. You can shop for the items you want, or spend the whole day in this maze.
There are 2 buildings around this area, so you are spoilt for choice.

This is our second time here, after a hiatus of 7 years... It is good to be back.

So many beautiful high quality made in Japan selections, but so little time! We spent three hours in the five level main shop and that was only time enough to explore 2.5 levels! This is a must go to little heaven for all fabric lovers, DIYers

Wide selection of good quality fabrics at affordable prices. Love the Japanese and anime printed fabrics which I won’t be able to find elsewhere.

This store and the entire Fabric Town street is so fantastic for sewers and DIYers!! This store is so organized with each floor specializing in a different category or theme. They have now have big section of fat quarters (for quilting). Love their accessories for making your own bags (handles). Staff will help you calculate how much fabric you need if you re at a lost.

Don't forget to check out the fabric remnants inside the entrance area. You can get nice fabric for dirt cheap. I got 2 metres of owl-patterned fabric for 500yen!!!!

Definitely a place worths a visit for anyone who's into handcrafting! PLEASE ADD this place to your list when you come! You WILL like it! It's almost a steal when you buy fabrics here (and they're decent fabrics!)
However I would suggest to do some homework before buying fabrics in Japan. At first, you grab the fabric, tell them how many meters you want to cut, then they'd cut for you. Then you go to the counter and pay it
*They accept multiple payment methods but JCB.
*You cant grab the fabric to another floor, you cut&pay at the current floor

My favorite thing is you get to know the components of (most of) the fabrics without asking them (learning a bit Katakana and relevant Kanji will help you!)

Five floors of fabric! It gets busy, but there are lots of staff members there to keep the queue moving. You have to pay for your purchases on each floor, and you take the fabric to the cutting table first, and then join the payment queue. There is a small selection of Nani Iro on the 4th floor, and lots of character prints (think Hello Kitty, Doraemon, Anpanman, etc), and a small amount of Sou Sou Kyoto. The prices were good (matched what I found in Okadaya and Cocca) and start as low as 100 yen per metre. Nani Iro was around 1400 yen per metre for double gauze, more for linen. I will definitely come back here on my next trip to Tokyo.

Fabric paradise! Huge selection of Japanese fabric with reasonable price. So many nice and different type of fabric you can choose. Staff are friendly and helpful. Apart from the main building, Tomato fabric also have few more stores located in the same street.

Many beautiful fabrics here at very fair prices. The street also has other sewing items such as buttons and linen. A must see place for anyone with a love of sewing or fabrics

The prices are really good and they have so many different types of fabric to choose from. I am more of an accessory/house wears/quilt type of sewer so I find Tomato to have a great selection, but if you're a clothing sewer you might not be as excited about the selection.

It's like they cover the whole street. Give yourself time to walk through. It's a museum of living fabric.

I love this whole neighborhood. But the creme de la creme is this five-story plus two separate buildings store. The five-story has the top level for quilting and bag accessories. If you can't find something that sparks your creative bug here, you aren't thinking hard enough. I would be in great trouble if we had anything close to this at home.
This time, I left it for last in my trip so I didn't spend all my money here. I went first to look, buying very little. The next day, when I had nothing planned, I returned with a plan. That would be the best way to shop. Just make sure they aren't closed because of a holiday.

Visited Tomato fabrics multiple times in September-November 2022 to cloths for drama costumes. We didn’t know that such a shop exists in Tokyo. Tomato Fabrics shops have many outlets in Higashi Nippori. The shops have a huge collection of cheap fabrics.

Excellent selection and good prices, including large sections of 100円/m bargain fabric. The main store has seven stories and there are satellite stores around it. Aisles can get crowded during busy times, but the stores are well organized and the staff is helpful. Tomato is always my first stop for sewing needs.

When in Tokyo we always come to visit. You pay for fabric on each floor that it comes from. The remnant bins often have some great options especially for things like the prequilted licensed fabrics which are normally by the metre.
I found the staff friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed shopping for my hobby-related stuff. There are a lot of options from the range of 100~.... I would suggest to spend a good time in the shop. Under one roof you find much stuff.

I visited Japan 8 years ago and just can't wait to return for another visit to the Tomato store in the Nippori fabric town.
