Inase Otsu Machiya

One of the best places we have stayed in Japan. This place was mostly out of reach from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto, yet close enough to many other overlooked attractions. The space was very well taken care of, and our hosts had top-notch hospitality. Special thanks to Sachiko-San who took the extra effort to speak with us in English and made us feel at home. Next time we might want to stay here longer to embrace the peace and tranquility of Otsu.

Three of us stayed for 1 night only and it was one of our favourite places in our whole trip. The lady who looked after us was open and kind and made a beautiful breakfast. The room was the tradition one on the second floor with small balcony looking over the garden. Lovely features, very clean and comfortable, with a toilet and wash basin. The bathroom is down stairs with a very nice tub and shower room all to yourself. Don't be put off by the term shared bathroom! Highly recommended and great value for money.

Very happy with our stay at Inase Otsu Machiya. After spending days in Tokyo and Hakone, it was a welcomed change to be in a laid back town within the proximity of Kyoto. The machiya is beautifully resorted from an old rice shop, and the staff (miki-san and sachiko-san) were more than accommodating. We truly enjoyed our time here.

Beautiful, quiet and comfortable inn. It was a great change of pace after the hustle and bustle of Osaka and surrounding areas. My 2.5 year old son and husband loved how comfortable and relaxing the traditional room was. The pillow, blankets for the futons we had in our room were so warm and fluffy. The Japanese breakfast was also very filling and great way to start the day. Also Otsu town is short 20-25minute ride into Kyoto depending on where you want to go. If I get a chance come back to here I would definitely love to stay Inase again!

Stayed here for three nights in mid-October, really lovely experience- can’t recommend highly enough. This ryokan is a beautiful old building, but with the right level of mod-cons. Comfy beds, delicious daily breakfast, big bath available, and a very peaceful atmosphere. Staff were super helpful and friendly. The small garden inside the building was a real delight. Easy transport links if you want to go to North Higashiyama or central Kyoto, the train station is about a 5 minute walk from Inase. This was a great spot to stay for seeing Kyoto sites while being able to get away from the crowds.

Historical building with cozy atmosphere and very nice staff. Convenient location for sightseeing. We stayed during summer and free ice stick served in refrigerator at G/F. We also attended the tea ceremony which is specil experience for us.

An amazing hotel, beatiful old japanese merchant home with an incredibly friendly staff!
They went so much out of their way to help me out when I was sick and provided me with selfmade hot lemon, food and extra drinks.
We were upgraded to their biggest room for free with an extra bath which was a life saver!
I would definitely recommend coming here!

83 years old building is a art pieces with modern toilet and bathing facilities. The owner is an architect and a Japanese tea teacher. Staff services are excellent. A peaceful and enjoyable experience.

Comfortable, historic, friendly, quiet, good traditional Japanese breakfast. Not much open in the surrounding area restaurant-wise, although that’s to be expected due to COVID.

Favorite overnight stop of the trip, this was a great location for our 3 day walking tour of the area. Just renovated this fall and very comfortable and relaxing!

Spent two nights and it was really quiet and clean. Awesome breakfast and friendly staff. Will definitely come again.

滋賀旅行で一泊しました。スタッフさんの対応も親切で非常に良い体験になりました。中の設備は新しくなっており、水回り（トイレ、お風呂、洗面所）も綺麗で快適でした。昔の家屋の良い所を残したまま、内部の設備は新しいので好きな人には堪らないと思われます。畳の匂いは落ち着きますね。WiFiも使えました。駅近で向かいにコインパーキングがあるのでアクセスしやすいのでgoodです。

本來以為共用浴室會不方便，完全多心了，超舒服超乾淨很自在！
共用廳也很溫暖，有卡通才會出現的暖爐桌，可以泡茶喝咖啡。

「晴嵐」這間房間有小桌椅在窗戶邊真的超美超美！
一定不會失望的！

這家民宿從京阪三井寺站走過來三分鐘左右，也可以從JR大津或是大津京走過來，大約20分鐘。
民宿外觀非常古色古香，感覺像是住在古蹟裡面但又充滿科技感，廁所分成shower及泡澡兩間，泡澡房間可以先預約使用時間，每次50分鐘，泡澡房間非常寬敞，大概四個人在裡面都是可以的，有充足的暖氣設備及最新的林內水溫控制系統，使用起來非常愉快！
這次房間預約三人房，裡面富有廁所及洗手台，還有一個沙發床，三個人使用非常足夠。
整個民宿都是木頭跟榻榻米，木頭踩起來非常舒適溫暖，早餐用餐區是傳統日式風格，平常可以使用到晚上11點，喝茶聊天用點心都很方便，冰箱也有幫每間訪客設計的盒子，區隔彼此的食物避免拿錯。

Magnifique lieu de repos et de retraite après les touristes de Kyoto… Dommage que les alentours soient si tristes. On arrive quand même à trouver 2-3 restaurants, mais il faut bien chercher !
