Never experienced such level of service and luxury before. First entry into the room to see the en suite onsen is truly impressive. And every meal in the dedicated private room was mind blowing. You step into the room and every place setting and appetizer is immaculately already laid out for you. The stay here makes this the trip of a lifetime. It also made traveling with kids so easy.

Amazing experience with Biwako Hanakaido. All the staff treated us with respect and friendliness. Everything was perfect from check-in to check-out: the drive service to the inn, the reception, the Western style room for my parents and the traditional Japanese style room for my sister and I, the Kaiseki style meal services, and most of all the heavenly onsen!

We had a Japanese room, they are lovely and this one was very spacious and clean. The futons weren't as comfy as we'd had previously, another mat maybe may have done the job but still had a good sleep. The service is excellent you can't fault it, pick up on time from the station. Note there isn't much around the hotel and you're some way from the sights, but it was easy enough to get to from Kyoto so would still recommend for a lovely night, especially with the meal. We upgraded to Omi beef and it was well worth it, the food was truly amazing as is the huge breakfast. We only used the private onsen, lovely, clean and as you expect very hot.

I visited for three days with my family hoping for a traditional Ryokan experience, we were met with so much more. This place exudes warmth, care and kindness in everything that they do. We had the most wonderful hostess who went above and beyond in service, greeting us at every arrival and departure to Biwako Hanakaido.

The food here was prepared meticulously, all fresh and all delicious. They were among the best meals we’ve had in all of Japan.

The establishment is kept clean, organized and is extremely beautiful. I definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

A nice hotel with very accomodating staff. We stayed in a "premium" room with a very nice private hot bath with view of lake biwako and beatiful interior. They had some very good english speaking staff wich were assigned to us.

Beautiful location close to the lake. Depending on which way your room faces you can see the lake as well. Service is great and we were greeted with peach tea and matcha chocolates upon arrival. It seemed to be a nice getaway location for locals. Great authentic Japanese cuisine and the onsens were nice and clean as well. Overall a great experience in a lovely Ryokan.

My girlfriend and I visited this Ryokan to have an experience that was recommended to me by my Japanese teacher. We had a room with a private bath that overlooked Lake Biwa with an incredible view. The bath and room were so nicely kept and the staff were so nice. They spoke English pretty well and understood my rudimentary Japanese too!

Be sure to wear your Yukata around the hotel (to dinner, breakfast, roaming, etc) as we got weird looks when we didn't realize we were supposed to wear it during the whole experience.

The meal was a very cool experience! They sat us in a tatami mat room and brought out food in multiple courses. They even accomodated my girlfriend's gluten allergy, which is difficuot in Japan. I have to recommend getting the traditional meal, but be wary that this is traditional Japanese food, not basic American-Japanese style food.

English-speaking foreigner friendly.

We visited Biwako Hanakaido for their one-hour private hot spa for 7150 yen. The private room is clean and spacious. Whatever you can expect for a private onsen experience can be found. What is amazing about this place is the hospitality of their staff. I wished I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel. Recommended for anybody who would want to use their day use onsen - it is first come first serve.

Great place. Futons were warm and very comfy. Room is clean and feels somewhat old. Onsen is shared bath with same genders, but can have a private bath with spouse for extra. It was not too expensive for private bath. The eating place is in a dining room and servers were attentive. Service was pretty great. Food was filling and tasted decent. I would definitely return for a longer stay.

One of the best experiences we've had so far!

The staff were super polite and friendly and we were offered with refreshments upon our arrival. Transport to get here was a bit tricky though.

The massage is a must try! I even fell asleep multiple times. They even give you a set of kimono to sleep in.

The hot springs were fantastic and I booked for a private one so we could enjoy ourselves in peace.

The food was the highlight of our stay (but to be honest, everything here was fantastic!) We had dinner and breakfast as part of our package(see the photos for mouth-watering images!)

When we mentioned that we were there for our honeymoon, they even gave us a cute matching pair of chopsticks as a gift to celebrate.

We will be coming back!

Picked up promptly from the station by the bus and welcomed in an extremely friendly manner to the hotel. Check in was smooth and took place sitting down with free drinks a snack. Rooms were nice but the best thing about them is the nice view of Lake Biwa. Highlight is the dinner, which was served privately and tasted delicious.

The Ryokan was located at a beautiful scenic location away from the bustling city. They provided transport from the train station which made it very convenient. Staff at this place was incredibly friendly and professional, they greet every single time they pass by and even as I was leaving at the train station, there was a staff that was not in uniform thanked us for staying. The hospitality was outstanding as well as their rooms. Would definitely come back to this place. The onsen was a nice experience as well, but sadly when I was there the massage services was unavailable.

Nice stay at a traditional Japanese hotel, a ryokan. We had a quite nice unforgettable dinner and an ok breakfast.
The view from the room was a spectacular view of the largest lake Biwa in Japan. The room with the futons was spacious and cozy. They only prepared the futons for the night, since there was a short leg table and chairs during the day.
Also, there's an onsen for women, and another for men. But you can book for private use, then it's not included.

Pleasant little getaway and beautiful sunrise view of lake view and mountains. I had to rent a private onsen because of my tattoos but they were very nice and respectful, it was relaxing and very affordable.

Our host Chihiro was very charming, welcoming us outside the hotel, very detailed about the hotel and activities possible during our stay. My fiancee and I would -love- to have her host again when we return.

The full course dinner and breakfast was delicious and filling, the staff was kind enough to not only present the meals but explain them as well.

Despite the rules on tattoos nobody made me cover them or hide them while in public areas, the staff in fact enjoyed looking at them (it's all pokemon, yokai, and anime). However I was not allowed in the public baths, which is fine because I wanted to bathe with my significant other :)

Absolutely amazing! They pick you up (and drop you off) at the train station and are so friendly during your entire stay. They have a private onsen you can rent (about 27 usd for 50 min) and the dinner and breakfast are delicious! It was a great experience

Very good experience with the possibility to rent a private onsen-sized hot spring bath. Amazing food, attention to detail and service. The room was a bit dusty, the mirror had marks and there were spider webs on the bacony above the outside bathtub in our room. But that is criticism on a high level. Would definetly come here again and do recommend it highly. There is a shuttle service from the local train station, too.

Everything advertised and more. The staff were exceptional, the food is delicious, and the rooms are comfortable and relaxing. If you're visiting Japan, this is a great way to save a bit of money while still living lavishly.

The service at biwako is top notch. The kaiseki meals (course meals) are excellent and they vary the dishes every day. Onsen is spacious and they provide a complete set of toiletries in the onsen area such as makeup remover for the ladies so you can just go empty-handed. They also provide a range of yukata designs for the ladies to choose during your stay. Loved this place and would come again.

Super excellent onsen restaurant. Staff was very friendly and well trained. They speak taiwanese Mandarin well as well as English. I reserved one day plan with omni beef. 6000 yen per person. You have private room japanese style lunch and enjoy onsen. Onsen was above average but not exceed my expectations. Overall, I love it and will try to go back again.
