Hikone Castle Museum

It was a really nice trip to Hikone. It took me and my friend about 1 h to get there, and it was pouring, but still, the views, the museum, and the castle were breathtaking. If you come to Kyoto, save a day to visit Hikone 😉

Very good museum focussed many on the Edo period. From this period there is a range of swords, calligraphy, art, armour, theatre masks and costumes, weapons and pottery. There is a recreation of the local leaders residence spanning over a dozen rooms. Most descriptions are in Japanese with some simple titles in English. There is free wifi and a free app that gives good free descriptions in many languages including English. I thought is was one of the better museums for the period. Discounted if you. It with the castle ticket which is directly next door.

Wasn’t sure if it would be worth the extra time and money to visit the museum, but glad I did. Great pieces including masks, art, kimonos, and samurai armour. However, the highlight was the wonderfully gorgeous traditional garden that brought tears to my eyes. Incredibly beautiful. Ticket for museum, castle and gardens is ¥1,200 at the time of writing. Well worth it.

I bought a ¥1,200 set ticket for Hikone Castle, Hikone Museum, and Genkyuen. A nice place if you have interest in historical place and museum, worth to visit.
The museum displays many of the Ii family's armor, letters, and other collections, well organized.

An absolutely lovely place to visit! I recommend the castle and garden at the minimum. The garden has a tea house where you can have some confectioneries and green tea for 500 yen, highly recommend!

A bit of a climb, but the views are breathtaking. Students show your ID to get in free!

The museum is very neatly, unbelievably organized.

The best value tourist attraction even in the castle. There are detailed explanations about the history of Hikone(which said it belonged to Ishida Mitsunari by the way, before the Ii family razed it and rebuilt it), tea rooms, medieval artifacts and more. Plus it's clean and well maintained. You might need a good command of Japanese to fully enjoy it though as English introductions are not too thorough.

Excellent museum. I particularly liked the reconstruction of a Daimyo residence including descriptions of rooms small gardens. A bonus was an exhibition of 16th and 17th centuries samurai swords from renowned sword smiths.

Amazing collection of artifacts from blades to masks and pottery. Probably the best small museum I've been to in Japan.

本当はお城にも行きたかったのですが、足の悪い母親には厳しいので、博物館のみ行きました。ゆっくり見たら半日は潰せると思います。

彦根城博物館は、昭和62年(1987)2月、彦根市の市制50周年を記念して、彦根城表御殿跡地にその復元を兼ねて建てられた博物館です。

彦根は、彦根城を中心とする城下町として栄え、数々の歴史・文化を育んできました。 代々彦根藩主を勤めた井伊家には、このことを物語る豊富な美術工芸品や古文書が伝えられてきました。 その数は約4万5千点にのぼり、現在、それらは彦根城博物館所蔵資料の中核となっています。 その他、彦根および彦根藩に関する資料も収集しており、収蔵資料は9万1千件を超えます。

Visite magnifique, château classé trésor national. Nous conseillons l'achat du billet global permettant la visite du musée, du château et des jardins (1200¥).
Nous avons passé un excellent moment dans ce lieu chargé d'histoire.

Le musée présente de belles pièces, deux armures, quelques sabres, des masques Nô, des cartes, divers objets et permet la visite d'une ancienne résidence traditionnelle avec vue sur son jardin zen. Nous avons apprécié !

ひこにゃんは、登城する時間が決まっているので、時間調整が必要になります。
その点では、彦根城博物館は時間調整も兼ねて利用すると良いです。
入場券を持っていれば再入場もできるので、ひこにゃんの登城時間に見学を中断し、その後見学を再開することもできます。

見応えあります。
鎧(井伊の赤備え)、能面、茶器など当時の粋を感じることができました。
お抹茶とお菓子のついた休憩できる席もあります。
