Though relatively new - it is already pretty impressive.
Gardens around are very nice, and I assume will get even better over time. Worth visiting if you're in Aomori

Very beautiful temple area, please make sure to visit the Great hall and if he is around, have a conversation with Tony-san.
He took the time to talk to me and my friend a bit longer and told us more about the temple, the different Buddhas and explained to us the correct way to pray and pay our respects to the Buddha in the main hall.
It was a beautiful experience.

Please make sure to visit the exhibition at the bottom of the big Buddha as well, it provides valuable inside into the nature of Buddhism.

The Showa Daibutsu Buddha is the centerpiece of the greater temple complex of which it is a part of. Finished in 1984, the Buddha is one of several of it's size in Japan, and is a hollow iron structure. The base of the Buddha is filled with images from Buddhist text, leading to an internal stairway that enters the interior of the iron sculpture housing a memorial. Every August, there is a ceremony held for Obon, featuring many lighted candles meant to be a guiding light for departed loved ones. Many families who have experienced a loss will go to shrines during Obon, to pray for their loved ones, and the Showa Daibutsu Buddha draws many visitors during this time. I am grateful that I was able to see it twice, as it was beautiful to behold and deeply meaningful. In my opinion, it is one of the best spiritual sites to visit in Aomori prefecture, though perhaps overshadowed by Osorezan.

The Japanese are perfect with their temples. It's like everything is meticulously planned like they knew where each leaf would fall after decades

Lived for 10 years in Aomori Prefecture. This Daibutsu was built during those years. Relatively young temple established in 1978. The Grand Priest, a visionary, wanted to make the benefits of Buddhism accessible to "anyone, anywhere, anytime". Cured of an incurable disease by becoming a monk at 16, he lived an amazing life culminating with the creation of this Blue Dragon Temple complex. WOW!

Such as peaceful temple that has beautiful scenery, best kept secret temple in Aomori!
Buddha statue, pagoda and peaceful atmosphere are truly remarkable. I wasn't expected this place to be this great at first but I spent more than 2 hours just to walk in the temple in quiet garden and area. Not much tourists or visitors during my visit time so it help to make my visit much more memorable

Showa Great Buddha

I drove from my residence in Misawa to Aomori Japan today. Went to many places in Aomori city and Aomori prefecture.

Went to a peaceful temple complex with 5 story Pagoda, shrines, and giant seated bronze Buddha statue. Seiryu-Ji Buddhist Temple in Aomori Japan.

Aomori Showa Daibtsu is the biggest bronze seated Buddha in Japan and is located at Seiryu-Ji in Aomori. You can get inside of the Buddha statue, and there is a war memorial and a Buddha museum. The grounds around Showa Daibtsu have the fourth highest 5-story pagoda in Japan, a well-manicured Japanese garden, and other traditional Japanese buildings.

This is unique and tranquil place to make a merit surrounded with Japanese style garden. It’s worth to visit and spend at least 1 hr to sit down in the main hall and meditate.

The Showa Buddha, the tallest bronze buddha statue in Japan, taller than the daibutsu in kamakura, so surprised to see such a beauty covered by 🌲 trees, many might not know about this location yet, it is beautiful and worth a visit.
It has direct bus Aomori station though frequencies are less so be aware of it.

Wonderful. Should be rated number 1 attraction in Aomori.
Easy walk up gentle slope so accessible to all.
Wonderful tranquil surrounding of very old trees in forest.
There is a bus from city centre that brings you here in about 35 minutes.

I LOVED THIS.

We had a limited time to spend in Misawa so we took the train to Aomori to see this and were NOT disapointed!

The Buddha statue is HUGE. The various shrines and Pagoda were interesting, we spent about an hour here looking around at it.

Very nice area. Went on a weekday and all buildings were closed. Still a good place to walk around. There is food available on premises.

You'll want an hour minimum and that's rushing it. Beautiful, calming, serene. I necessarily eon't want to or do read everything, the artwork of Buddha's learning his ways, have to absorbed through one's eyes, it's a beautiful process. Slow down!

This is a really fabulous place to visit. They have a nice parking lot. It costs about $8 for an adult. Their entire grounds is beautifully kept with lots of area to admire. They have a full English translation of everything when you get your ticket.
You can go inside the Buddha and there you can learn a lot about the Buddhism afterlife. It is a must visit.
