It is such a nice square with a good walking attractions and monuments. There is a nice canteen within 200m that is just simply amazing. As dke the monument, beside the historical relevance, there is not much to see or do. It is too tall for you to enjoy the sculpture..

Lovely monument and a nice interesting walk as well. The independence of the central Asian nations is something to celebrate and this monument is very tasteful.

Cool landmark. Vast area. Visited last week there were works across the road, hard to get photo of the government building.
But this one is fine.
Has the golden warrior on top of the snow leopard. Symbolizing freedom.
You can also put your hand(might wanna sanitize afterwards) on the book where nur sultan declared independence.

Dont miss out on Kazakhstan Independence Monument when you travel to Almaty . The Monument of Independence also know as the Golden Warrior Monument. It is located in the Republic Square of Almaty (opposite to presidential house)and stands in a 91 feet tall column and Golden Man on winged snow leopard on top of the obelisk one of the main symbols of independent Kazakhstan. The monument of independence shows the independence of Kazakhstan, its people and the role of the city of Almaty when it was the capital until 1997. The monument also depicts the rich history of Kazakhstan from Queen Tomiris time till the present modern day. The Golden man depicts a statue of the Saka Warrior and a Bary and was conceptualized by a group of eminent Kazakh architects led by Shota Valihanov.in the base of the column ,A bronze book is located in the base of column , The message on the bronze book is in Kazakh, Russian, and English; in the latter language, it invites you to make a wish. The hand is an imprint of the right hand of the president; so many people have already made a wish, you can also make your wish through keeping your right hand on the presidents hand.
(I suggest you to visit Almaty october to january , you can see the snow all around)

The maintenence of the independence Monuments are remarkable. Just on the way side, the pride of Kazakhstan Monuments. No rush. Plenty of parking space for vehicles.

The Independent Monument in Almaty, Kazakhstan, is a significant landmark located in Panfilov Park. It was built to commemorate Kazakhstan's independence from the Soviet Union, which was declared on December 16, 1991. The monument consists of a tall white column topped with a golden statue of a man holding a bird, symbolizing freedom. It serves as a symbol of the country's sovereignty and freedom. #Nomad_sUkHi

Main Monument is encircled by four small sculptures. There are more sculptures in outer circle. Two fountains are there at the back side. I visited on 31 Aug 2023.

It's a historical place where people come to honor the memory of those who sacrificied their lives for Independence of Kazakhstan on 16 December each year. Apart that it's surrounded with green park and fontains, kids playground. So you can come with kids and have a picnic, nice evening walks as it's beautifully decorated with street lighting.
