Udani Hotel

A wonderful place to have a snack or a main meal on the way.
They have their own backery and we could enjoy fresh and hot breads. And also we got. A yummy tomato + coconut milk curry තක්කාලි හොද්ද and it is not easy to explain the taste of it.
Not only that they have fish curry, coconut sambol, egg curry etc..
And also there were other short eats like Crocodile shaped sugar bun (කිඹුල බනිස්), Muffins (ඉස්පන්චි), Coconut Hoppers වණ්ඩු etc.

The resturant handles by an educated family and the provide an excellnt service. And what I felt is they do the business not only to earn profit. They are very friendly and the prices are very fair.

Typical rural hotel offering delicious bakery food...

Highlights: Tomatoes curry is a must try with bread or string hoppers.

I have been there several times with a friend during our trips to Mathale. This is our usual snacking place when we return home. It's a family run old school hotel which offers mainly bakery items with few other types of food.

They offer several types of buns, local sweets, bread and string hoppers with curries. All of them are made in house. Even though the place does not look that appealing their food is delicious. During our recent visit we had roast bread with tomato curry which was great. The bread was crispy and the curry was tasty. On a previous occasion we had string hoppers and it was nice too. After having bread we also had a viana roll which was very nice. We washed everything off with plain tea. They offer plain tea, tea with milk and coffee too.

The service they offer is very good and the staff is very friendly. Most of the staff are the family members so it could be expected.

Overall I liked the place very much and will return whenever I am on this route. The only downside is they close early. Typically around 5.30 pm.
