Walauwa On The Hill

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the walawwa on the hill ,a beautifully restored traditional Sri Lankan walawwa that truly captures the essence of the country’s rich cultural heritage. Originally a residential property, the property has been thoughtfully transformed into a beautiful boutique hotel that blends historical charm with modern comforts.

From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the hotel’s intricate architecture and warm ambiance. The carefully preserved details of the walawwa, such as the ornate woodwork and spacious verandas, provide a glimpse into 1900 centuries Ceylon architecture

The staff and the owner manager Krishan at Walawwa went above and beyond to make our stay memorable, sharing fascinating stories about the hotel’s background and local culture I grew up.Their genuine hospitality made us feel like part of the family, and they provided excellent recommendations for exploring the area.

During my visit, I took a trip to Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak), which was an unforgettable experience. The breathtaking views from the summit were worth every step of the journey, and the spiritual significance of the site added to its allure. Additionally, I explored Sri Lanka's longest tunnel, which was a fascinating adventure that showcased the country’s engineering marvels.

The hotel also features an exceptional on site culinary experience Each meal was a delightful exploration of local ingredients and culinary traditions, beautifully presented and bursting with flavor.

This unique hotel, with its historical roots and modern luxury, is a perfect choice for travelers seeking an authentic experience. I cannot wait to return to this hidden gem!

Krishan, the host, is the heart and soul of this place. He's not just attentive; he makes you feel like family. The staff are super friendly too – they really go above and beyond.

The rooms are spotless, comfy, and just what you need after a day out in Hatton. And the food – absolutely delicious, with a lovely local touch.

Location-wise, it's right in the thick of things, but still manages to be a peaceful retreat. Plus, the prices are just right. It’s not just a hotel, it’s like staying with friends. Can't wait to go back!

Beautiful boutique hotel. Clean one. There is a guy called Vijay who takes care of the property and do the cooking whatever request. His strong tea 5 star ⭐.

Beautiful property, very close to town. Kumara is a nice host and the food was good, but portion sizes may underwhelm.
Might be a little difficult to find the gate on the main road.

One of the best stays in Hatton area. Very unique and beautiful place to stay. This place is nearly 125 years old but it’s very well maintained and you don’t feel it’s a old house. It has an unique vibe of heritage and modernity

Stylowy, zabytkowy budynek z czasów kolonialnych.
Pięlne pokoje z wygodnymi łóżkami. Wyjątkowe miejsce, zarówno pod względem klimatu jak i obsługi.
Do dyspozycji gości jest ogromny salon i taras z widokiem na miasto.
Bardzo dobre lokalne śniadania, polecam! :)

Sehr sehr nettes Personal, angefangen von der spontanen Abholung spät abends am Bahnhof (ohne Voranmeldung), selbstgekochtes Essen danach, und leckeres Frühstück. Alle waren zuvorkommend, lieb und haben sich super um uns gekümmert. Wir haben uns rundum willkommen gefühlt. Zimmer ist sehr geräumig, sauber und schön eingerichtet. Danke für eure Gastfreundschaft!
