මෙම දේවාලය 1598 දී පමණ සීතාවක රාජසිංහ රජුගෙන් සම්මාණලත් මෙන්ම කබලෑව ගම්වරය සමඟින් රාජකීය භාණ්ඩ සමූහයකින් ගෞරවාදරයට පාත්‍ර වූ මෙන්ම විහාරස්ථානය ක්‍රි:ව 1779 සෙංකඩගල පුරවරයෙහි රාජ්‍ය කළ කීර්ති ශ්‍රී රාජසිංහ රජුගෙන් සම්මාන ලත් ගෞරවණීය වූ ස්ථානයකි. සියම් මහා නිකායේ මල්වතු පාර්ශවයේ මුල් භික්ෂු පරපුර නියෝජනය කරන මෙම විහාරස්ථානය වසර 280ක ලිඛිත භික්ෂු පරපුරකට උරුමකම් කියයි. එසේම කුලියාපිටිය මැතිවරණ කොට්ඨාශයේ පළමු පූජාභූමිය ලෙස ද ප්‍රජාතාන්ත්‍රික සමාජවාදී ජනරජයේ 2363/84 යන අතිවිශේෂ ගැසට් පත්‍රයකින් නම් කර ඇත. එම නිසා මෙම ස්ථානය ඉතා වැදගත් ඓතිහාසික ස්ථානයකි.
