what a lovely cabin surrounded by nature. the sauna and hot tub made us relax and we loved every second of our stay.

Amazing place. The essence of Latvian nature beauty.

Despite some issues marring the experience, I can only give Empagi a five star rating. This secluded, solitary place offers a stunning combination of facilities to spend a quiet weekend away from the world, alone or as a couple. The house is fairly small, with a single living/sleeping room combined with the kitchen area, but it features a hot tub with a lake view, a charming fireplace that also happens to heat a small private sauna, and an outdoors hot tub right by the lake. It's technically located in a small village, but not only it looks almost deserted, with barely any people or cars on the streets, but the guest house itself is located 400m deep into privately owned land, well away from what little civilization there is in Lādezers. You can spend days there without seeing a single living soul.

A few words on the drawbacks, though. Firstly - and it's the only real flaw - there seem to be some issues with the hot water, which is really unfortunate as it can ruin your experience with the hot tub and the sauna. The water sometimes runs cold, and I'm guessing the boiler is not quite up to the job of heating the massive amounts of water all the good stuff needs.

Secondly, the kitchen area is quite small and very basic. There's only a tiny induction stovetop, and it's a challenge to fit even two pans onto it. There's also neither an oven nor a dishwasher. That makes cooking something more involved basically impossible, and doing the dishes is quite a chore. Fortunately, my dinner plans didn't require an oven, and I made do with the stovetop quite handily, but it's something to plan for on your visit.

Thirdly, the road to Empagi is quite atrocious. I'm not talking about the last four hundred meters of unpaved road, that's quite fine by me. But the "highway" from Ragana to Limbaži is in a horrible state. And there's 20km of it you'll need to cover. Be prepared.

There are several more things that you need to keep in mind on your visit. The place is not pet-friendly, unfortunately. Heating the outdoors tub will take three to four hours, and it's about the same with the sauna (especially if you're going for Finnish-style dry heat). The place is also quite pricey, you'll have to pay the bare minimum of 250 EUR for the two-night stay without any options. It's totally worth it, but the price tag is decidedly on the high-ish side. Lastly, the place tends to be all booked, year through. You'll need to make your reservations months ahead, and even then finding a convenient date may be difficult or impossible.

Having said all that, I spent two wonderful nights at Empagi, and I'm definitely looking forward to a repeat visit.

Skaista un mierpilna vieta. Māja ļoti tīra un pārdomāta. Saimniece ļoti atsaucīga un par visu padomājusi. Bija skaisti izrotāta eglīte, gan vannas bumba priekš vannas un viss sagatavots priekš pirts.
