I enjoyed my experience in Baba Charlie restaurant. I heard the restaurant has been in business for awhile. It was through a family member's recommendation that I had the opportunity to try their cuisines for the first time. We had our lunch before checking in to our hotel in Jonker Street.

Overall it was an enjoyable experience and there are lots of varieties of nyonya cakes for sales. More than you can try in one setting.

I love to come back again in my next trip to Melaka.

I visited over hundred places in Malaysia and did not have the time to review every single location until now.

Food is nice, big portion, environment ok, is crowded because many people and need to wait for seat during peak hour.

Staff are polite and friendly, everything is just nice.

They have set menu for 2-3 pax and up to 8-10 pax, have big table that suitable for family dinner.

Not my first visit & certainly won’t be the last. Dishes were not overwhelming with flavor. Brought a group of 30 pax to enjoy the sumptuous nonya cuisine.

Service were attentive, didn’t manage to try their kueh during this visit.

The owner was very friendly & he was at the door to greet our group with a big smile!

Love their kuehs especially Tapioca kueh, Kueh Salat and pulut udang. Ondeh has a nice bit but would like more gula melaka and slightly less dough, nevertheless still delicious.
Fried garlic slices looks beautiful for lazy bums like us.

Totally love the traditional pastries and kueh here. It's a bit hard to drive inside because the road is so small, but it was worth it. Try the sampler package which consists of 12 different kuehs for RM 12. Simply delicious and very worth it for the price. So many different varieties available. Must come!
Updated March 2024: The have a extensive menu of local peranakan food and snacks. Prices are acceptable and of good value. Their curry laksa is delicious. And the kangkung belacan is a huge serving. Definitely try their cendol also. A great place to come and try Baba Nyonya food. Prices are good and of good value.

Tried our very first baba nyonya styled kuih delicacies at Baba Charlie. Oh my god, this place is a heaven for traditional nyonya kuih and they also offer ala carte lunch menu. I fell in love with their range of kuih and the boxed chicken curry nasi lemak was to die for. Highly recommended. You can also stay in their home stay.

Baba Charlie Cafe is a popular cafe in Melaka that specializes in traditional nyonya kuih and desserts. The nyonya kuih are made fresh daily using traditional methods and high-quality ingredients. Some of my favourites are ondeh-ondeh, kuih lapis, kuih kochi and kuih dadar. They also serve a range of nyonya and other local dishes like laksa, nasi lemak, popiah and curry puffs. The cafe's cozy and welcoming atmosphere, plus its friendly staff, make it a popular spot for both locals and tourists.

Came at 840am. Full stock and everything available. (I came the day before 5pm and everything empty..no choice )

Fair and good that they only make sufficient what they can sell rather than to keep overnight. Good ethics.

Tastes great too. (Not sweet..important)

Baba Charlie Cafe is a great place to visit for those who love Nyonya kuih. The cafe has a wide variety of kuih available, and there is also a dine-in area. The Nyonya fried noodle and Nyonya Laksa are highly recommended, and the "onen onen" is an absolute must-try.

Pie tee, a great snack for Nyonya crave lovers, it's crispy outside and is mouth watering inside.

The food is delicious and satisfying, and the prices are reasonable. The only downside is that the place can be quite crowded during peak hours. Overall, a great place to visit for some authentic Nyonya cuisine.

We met Baba Charlie himself at the cashier taking payment! It is bustling and crowded when we arrived in the morning. We managed to get a table upstairs. For food in the menu, can order with the waiter but for kueh we went downstairs and take our pick. Very enjoyable meal. The Assam and curry were great, and also their dry mee Siam. For kueh, we were impressed with those that had glutinous rice. The coconut kueh were ok but not outstanding.

Most of the bad reviews here are for their food, but baba Charlie is famous for their nonya kueh, and from my experience this is as good as it gets. They sell a wide variety of kueh and are very reasonably priced. Each type is sold one by one if you want to mix and match, or in packs if you want to bulk-buy your favourite. Definitely worth a visit, and I would ignore all the negative reviews if you just want to buy nonya kueh.

Loved the kuih, nasi lemak, mee siam and iced coffee from there. Even though I ordered to go, the selection of kuih and food was amazing. The nasi lemak was nice, hot and delicious whilst the kuih was really good and traditional. One thing I appreciated was that they had the variety pack of kuih which allowed us to try out different varieties.

If I had the chance I would definitely love to dine in the restaurant. Also good to go there early before the crowd comes! The owner (I think) was really friendly and they helped in providing some advise on which kuih to get.

A restaurant which also sells all kinds of goodies from kuih to dried food to local Melaka delicacies. I recently tried their ondeh ondeh for the first time and it is THE BOMB. The moment you pop 1 of those green balls in your mouth, the fragrant scent of toasted sesame seeds and fresh grated coconuts fill your mouth. Once you bite into the chewy flesh of the green ball, the gula melaka filling explodes into your mouth! Every piece is an absolute delight.

Their yam cake, and kuih tai tai were delicious too. The kaya was very fragrant.

They also sell cincalok, nyonya chang, pineapple tarts, prawn rolls, popcorns, biscuits and all sorts of yummy local treats.

The food was excellent and value for money. Tried the laksa, nonya Zhang, odeh odeh, chendol. Everything was good. Only the popiah a bit off but possibly as we were already too full

I love the asam fish, nyonya laksa, cendol, popiah and ABC ice kacang. The place is air conditioning and you may sit outside for smokers. They do sell other stuff like cencaluk, keropok and cookies. The kuih muih sold out fast. Better be there as early as 9am to get the kuih muih. Thumb up for me.

Although very touristy, the standard of the food was great. Both times we went, the level of consistency did not drop. Very authentic peranakan food and worth the price. Would definitely come back when I’m in Melaka!

Very good and fast service, food also good.

Lime and lemon drink had way too much sugar but it's how everyone likes it here. Always ask no sugar. Even little sugar tastes like 5 spoons.

First time here at Baba Charlie Cafe, previously been to the other outlet not too far away where they produce their famous Nyonya kuih. This place were slightly less busy comparatively, maybe it was just us being early on a Monday morning.

The nyonya laksa were good! The mee siam were a little bit only the spicy side to me. The cendol is on par if not better than most of the common touristy nyonya food place in town. A plus point is that all their famous nyonya kuih is offered here as well, you don't need to make another visit to the original baba charlie kuih place.
