Melaka Batu Berendam Heron Watching Place

Great place for birdwatching as this place has been a magnet for waterbirds for a long time. The council for this part of Melaka has done a great job in preserving the wetland habitat.

There's several species of wetland birds to see, namely egrets, night herons, purple herons, and the occasional Asian Openbill. There are also several common birds in the vicinity. No walkway, so you can park your car and just go to the edge to see the birds. Lots of mosquitoes if you go in deeper.

There's a bird signboard put up, and in 2022, the local council and Hotel Premier ran a bird photography contest here.

Good place for birdwatching, especially for water birds. Some species of birds spotted were the Purple Heron, White-throated Kingfisher, Asian Openbill, Black-crowned Night Heron and the Little Egret. If you are attempting to do wildlife photography there, I strongly suggest you to have at least a 600mm lens with you as the birds are perched far away.

Hopefully the Malaccan government puts in the funds to conserve this habitat as it serves as a nesting spot for many water birds and a potential tourist spot. There are no boardwalks, so if you are attempting to get closer to the birds, wear long pants and waterproof shoes.

Amazing place for bird watching and very accessible. Able to drive directly to the viewing area. So many species of heron and other water birds. Highly recommend.

Very good place to watch the birds. There is also a coffee shop nearby.
