Town hall of Middelburg

Middelburg Town Hall, located on the market, is a town hall built in the late Gothic style. Construction began in 1452, led by several generations of the architect family Keldermans from Mechelen, and construction continued until 1520. The town hall has a tower with a clock and a Carillon. Middelburgers call the tower Malle Betje, because the clock is always behind the Lange Jan clock.

This is a historical building and we really felt privileged to be able to view its halls and exhibits.
Going through this place you understand what a powerfull city Middelburg has been. It becomes clear why New Zealand bears the name of a small region of a small European country.
When you see the glory of the halls and reminders of size and importance of commerce you understand where the Dutch pride comes from!
If you miss this you will not miss any particular item but you will definitely miss the atmosphere and an opportunity to fantasize about how this place must have been used in historical times.

Amazing historical town.

Absolutely a stunning building to see. The architecture is amazing as is the outside layout and brickwork.

We only saw it from the outside but it was beautiful. Unique for this part of the Netherlands.

Middleburg is a beautiful, quaint, very old little city in the Netherlands. In the province of Zealand down in the Southwest part of the country. Check out my photos!

Its funny, but in some travel articles I read, its written that this buidling is the second most beautiful buidling in the Netherlands. Dont ask me who occupies the 1st place please as thats also my question. ;-)

Anyway, the location is nice. Its surrounden by great cafes and restaurants. You can do some tours as well.

Stadt in Zeeland hat durch seine kleinen und engen Gassen und den tollen grossen Markt mit dem superschönen Stadhuis besonderen Charme. Hier kann man sehr gut in Cafe´s sitzen das Treiben beobachten und sehr gut shoppen gehen.
Durchzogen von Wasserkanälen kommt die Stadt mit den typischen Mittelalterlichen Gebäuden im Stadtkern besonders gut an. Das Rathuis ist gotisch und kann natürlich auch von innen besichtigt werden.

-gute Beschilderungen zu den zahlreichen Sehenswürdigkeiten
-ereichbar über Terneuzen durch Scheldetunnel( Mautpflichtig)
oder von Vlissingen ( der anderen Seite der Halbinsel )
-kleine Hotel´s und preiswerte Pensionen
-sehr guter Gastronomie ( Restaurant´s und Cafés)
--Donnerstags grosser Markttag
- Parkmöglichkeiten zentrumsnah
-der lange Jan und die Abtei ist zu empfehlen

Schöne Stadt für eine Städtereise.
