the Chavela was our absolute favorite food place on the island!
It has delicious food, the burger (5 USD) was great (with chips!) and the fish was also delicious (12 USD). All the food is home made, fresh and yummy, the lady running the place speaks great English and is very friendly. The place itself is also neatly decorated and is just a lovely spot to spend the evening in.

Since the Chavela is closed on Sundays and Mondays, we were only able to have dinner there once, but would SO LOVE TO COME BACK!

This was a darn good burger! One of the best we’ve had in Bocas Del Toro. It was juicy, well seasoned, & the bun was so soft.
The restaurant is just starting back up after COVID shut them down so some things are limited on the beverage side.
The service is friendly & entertaining. We only had the beef burger, which came with perfectly cooked fries.
We’ll definitely be back & they also deliver in Bastimentos!

We had such a nice dinner at Chavelas restaurant. Its just up a few houses off the street - if you’re feeling lost ask or just stand there looking lost and someone will help. Chavela grew up on the island and she very clearly cares about her home and cooking great meals. I had roasted chicken and my family had ceviche, burger and also a veggie sandwich (not on menu but my aunt doesn’t eat meat so they made her something without!)

Everything was very well prepared. The tropical slaw and coconut rice were exceptional, as were (gasp) the FRENCH FRIES.. so crispy.

Our drinks were outstanding, too.

I will definitely be back.

Phenomenal burgers! You wouldn't think that Panama would have amazing cheeseburgers but these rival any great burger joint in the states. The location itself is worth visiting, as it's got a character all its own.

Delicious food and local atmosphere.
Chavela is owned and run by locals and it seems as if that’s where all their friends and family hang out- but the loud atmosphere is what makes it special! The food and service is delicious and portions are big! Definitely recommend the Pad Thai (you can even split it)

Came here with my girlfriend and really struggled to find a place that was opened.

The food here was pretty good for the price you pay ($5 for a burger and chips which was great)

The lady running the cafe was very friendly and even offered us tons of tips on what we could do with the rest of our travels on the island.

Will definitely be coming back soon!

Great burgers. We tried the double beef and fish burgers. Both were great. Fries also above expectations. Prices are very affordable compared to the other restaurants that cater to tourists on bastimentos.

Charming with quiet music and excellent food nestled behind Chavela's parents' home off the Old Bank walkway. Caribbean plates, fish tacos and awesome burgers. You'll see locals dining here and doing takeout. All excellent.

They have really tasty burgers and the staff is quite friendly. The prices are fair and we saw some locals having dinner here, too, which usually is a good sign.

Best meal of our two month trip to South/Central America. Fish, rice, pineapple coleslaw. So simple but so good. Great cocktails too.

Hi! Chavela Bar and Restaurant is closed since 2019 ❤ Sorry for the disappointment, but the new restaurant in the same local where was Chavela’s. I think it name Island Time, they have great food also and very friendly staff.

The host was great and the food was excellent! It's off the path and I never would have known it was there, but glad we found it!

One of the few places on the island where you can eat something tasty and the prices are affordable. Very nice vibe and the only downside is short opening hours.

The best and cheapest food we have had in Bocas del Toro!! It is just off the main road so it takes some searching but it is worth it.

Chill. Relaxing. Tasty food. The owners are kind and take time to help you enjoy the day with their wonderful attitude and service.

We visited this place 5 years ago and we still talk about the jerk chicken and the passionfruit coleslaw to this day. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Tasty food (try the beef nachos and octopus), and good drinks - nice familly owned restaurant! Must-do on the island!
