St. John Nepomucene Parish Church

ST. JOHN NEPOMUCENE PARISH CHURCH –a century old church in Tangalan, Aklan. Designed with limestone built in 1889 as inscribed on its facade.
The church building was completed after 28 years through a system called "Polo y Servicio" during the Spanish era. Men, women and as much as children were forced to join this so-called great polo and toiled from sunrise to sunset carrying blocks of corals and limestone from the quarries in Barangay Afga to the construction site in the town center.

St. John Nepomucene Parish Church is the only church in Aklan that was made up of coral stones and limestone mixture. It was known that the coral stones were got from the coastline of Brgy. Afga and brought on foot by locals to the present location of the Church. It was embossed on its facade that it was built in 1889, but renovations were also done, and the latest renovation was carefully hammered and chiseled off the wall to remove the cement plaster so that the coral stones will come out. Now, the Church is one of the most beautiful churches in the province aside from the St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Kalibo and St. Isidore the Farmer Parish Church in Lezo.

From afar I thought the facade looks like the Alamo.

An old church that you can visit on your way to Jawili Falls. It is currently 130 years old.
