Provincial Library

Time spent in there is really worth it! Its comfortable to study, the staff are really helpful and they also provide advice for whatever need that would arise like recomendation of books, affordable printing of documents and computer use. Its AC so its not hot, only problem is it gets too cold sometimes but nothing that can't be solved by bringing an extra jacket or staying a bit further away from the AC's.

It is first established on September 1925, and its age is showing in every corner. Although the library materials are well-arranged in their shelves or cabinets—from books, magazines, to bound periodicals, digests and many more—the place badly needs newer and updated materials.

Preservation is also an area of concern because handling and storage of materials are not up to par with a certain standard—some items are simply stacked on the floor. It does not help that these things are close to the restroom, too. If there is an online cataloging system, it seems it is not readily accessible because it is nowhere to be found. Everything feels outdated. And there are people who simply visit the library only to sleep (on the sofa or by the table), which gives the library a very parochial, disrepected feel to it.

It would be nice if the provincial library management invests on new materials, refurbishes the entire space, implements modern technologies, and conducts activities and programs that will encourage more Boholanos and even tourists to come to the library, engage in thoughful and creative discourse, and bring back the joys of reading.

Quiet, clean, well air conditioned, space. Polite, helpful, some English speaking, staff.

Not much different, we suspect, from how it appeared in the 1950s.
Increasingly less useful.

A row of 10, desktop computers, are , by far, the most valuable + useful feature of this institution.

Internet access for 10 pesos per hour!

Wisest improvement of this entire space would be to cram many more internet accessible, computes into every nook + cranny (+ extend the access hours to include late nights + weekends).

Don't expect such cost effective improvements to be implemented any time soon. It's the mindset, not the budget!
