Shah BahaRo
Shah Baharo Sindhi (شاهه بهارو) was a warrior,[1] a military commander[2] of Kalhora dynasty of Sindh, now a province of Pakistan, during the monarchy of Noor Mohammad Kalhoro and Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro.[3] He also remained minister of Mian Noor Muhammad Kalhoro.[4][5] it is as well mentioned that he had been appointed as administrator by Mian Noor Muhammad Kalhoro. He fought 84 battles in his life time.[1] He had dug many canals for irrigation purposes and also constructed forts.[6] He died in 1188 H, 1735 AD and over his burial place the tomb was built by Mian Ghulam Shah Kalhoro in 1773/74 AD.[7][3] The fresco paintings adorn the inner and outer walls of the tomb but now became dim. Shah Baharo was a brave warrior from 18th Century who is well-known for fighting 84 battles during the Kalhoro rule and is also known responsible for restoring peace to Larkana when the Sindhi ruler Mian Noor Muhammad Kalhoro appointed him administrator of the area. In respect for Shah Baharo’s services and bravery his built was built later in 1773 and is located in Larkana.

The tomb is in a deplorable condition having cracks developed in the main structure, including the platform as result of heavy rainfall. Damp and groundwater have risen to an astonishing 18 feet into structure, severely damaged about half of the kasha-tiled façade. The frescoes on the interior walls have also deteriorated. Photographs below show us the damaged condition of the tomb before EFT took control of the conservation.

The mausoleum of Shah Baharo is said to have been erected to his memory by Ghulam Shah Kalhora in 1774 AD. Its area is about 4.15 acres. Shah Baharo held a military commander under Noor Muhammad Kalhoro and died in 1735 AD. He is credited with having excavated several canals and built some forts.
However, there was also a Bahar Shah Faqir who served Noor Muhammad Kalhoro and Ghulam Shah Kalhoro and he was alive in 1158 AH, when he held an expedition against the Hindus of Karachi who had penetrated into Sindh. The Faqirs were adherents of Kalhora Chief and on several occasions rendered him valuable military services.
