Bochnia Salt Mine Reviews

The experience of visiting this salt mine was truly worth it! We had an excellent guide with a great sense of humour. She not only told us about the different landmarks/attractions we walked past, but was also very eager to answer questions and give us some fun facts about the mine.
More about the visit itself : You go down around 200 meters under the ground with a lift, and then the length of the tour is about 5km. There are not as many stairs as we thought there would be, but still. We particularly enjoyed the church (pic below), and the animated characters (miners, owners of the mine or merchants) telling their stories from the walls were pretty great too, especially for the kids.
At the beginning you take a little train for like 5 minutes, and then at the end of the visit there's also a 5min boat ride. The visit lasts a bit less than 4 hours, but there's a 30min break to have some coffee or food (which was not overpriced!) before going back up.
If you don't speak Polish, booking an English speaking guide is probably a must.

I liked this muzeum a lot. It's not so popular as Wieliczka, but also very interesting. I enjoyed multimedialne parts and stories from the guide :)
I suggest to buy tickets online in advance. It would be almost impossible to buy tickets directly before the visit due to amount of tourists.
I also don't suggest to buy tickets with the underground lake trip. This is really small channel, about 2 meters width. The trip goes about 4 minutes in dark. So it's not very exciting:)

Definetely recomend this salt mine for visiting! In tour are weaved multimedia installations, when founders of the salt mine (King Kazimierz, Italian merchants) are telling their stories from screen. During 4 hours trip we have passed all main attractions, and took the underground rook trip. There're underground concert halls, sleeping rooms, gyms. Very appealing trip!

Yes the oldest rock salt mine in Poland which has now been granted UNESCO world heritage protection. The trip takes you into the distant past using multimedia expositions which explains the mine history starting from the era of Prince Boleslaw and princess Kinga to the mines going insolvent. The route includes a ride of the mining train, obviously two trips on the shaft lift and also a boat trip across flooded chamber.
There is also a loverly cafe in the Wazyn chamber and also accommodation, a bar, basketball court that you can stay in during non covid times.
As with all Polish salt mines there are some fantastic chapels as well.

A wonderful place with many different sites and ways of experience. Actual mining lift, corridors, mining troleys, bascetball court, wedding and other festivities availability, chaplice, 1st class relic, restaurant, beds to stay the night...

Impressive salt mine, the oldest in Poland and part of Unesco world heritage list. The only way to visit the mine is on a guided tour. There is only one English tour daily at 15 pm. Duration is about 4 hours. You can buy an extra ticket to travel a short distance onboard an underground raft bout during the tour. The rafter had some good stories. At the end of the tour you may slide a long slide down to the cafeteria or alternatively use the stairs. If you want to slide long trousers and closed shoes so where these if you want to test the fast way down.

Amazing place! Small groups, interesting stories told by the guides, some interactive effects. I've been there twice and each time enjoyed the time spent in the mine. The parking is for free, you don't need to wait at the entrance. If you are hesitant whether to choose Wieliczka or Bochnia, there's just one answer: Bochnia!

Fantastic day out! Very interesting and beautiful sites. Make sure you wear comfortable footwear, as there is a lot of walking.

It was great to visit, it was so interesting. You can book a translator and take a route where you boat underground, or you can take a route on foot. It was so interesting to hear about all the facts about the miners and explore all the underground tunnels.

Great place. The only place in the world where you can swim in a boat 250 metres below the ground or even play basketball there. You have to be healthy enough to keep up with the pace of the underground tour.

It was a really nice salt mine, however, it says it is for 3 year olds and older. I had to carry my 3 year old for most of the adventure and twords the end my 5 year old was exhausted as well.

The Bochnia Salt Mine (Polish: Kopalnia soli Bochnia) in Bochnia, Poland, is one of the oldest salt mines in the world and is the oldest commercial company in Poland.

It was established between the 12th and 13th centuries after salt had been discovered there, and became part of the royal mining company, żupy krakowskie (Kraków Salt Works). In 1990 the mine ceased producing salt but remains a tourist attraction.

In 1981 it was declared a heritage monument. It is one of Poland's official national Historic Monuments (Pomnik historii), as designated on 6 October 2000, and is overseen by the National Heritage Board of Poland.

The chapel in the mine has train tracks running through it.

Very nice attraction. Very good even if you've been to Wieliczka, because it's pretty different.
