It’s hard to give any memorial anything less than 5 stars, but this one has meaning and intent which makes it more than deserving. This memorial was dedicated to the thousands of Jews of Kraków who were forcibly moved from their homes to live here in a ghetto until they all had been sent to a concentration/death camp or killed before ever leaving. Each chair resembles thousands of Jews. victims

Nice exhibit/Monument/reminder of the artrocities of the Nazis and what humans are capable of

Laid out with 70 large well-spaced metal chairs meant to symbolise departure, as well as subsequent absence, the entire square has essentially been turned into an odd, but iconic memorial to the victims of the Kraków Ghetto. A place for candles and reflection was created in the former German guardhouse at the north end of the square, however the gesture rings hollow considering the space is always locked.

Had a few hours to spare on my last day in Krakow and took a walk to the Jewish Memorial and the old synagogue which is free to go in very moving as well.

As history is available everywhere, you might not want to miss something so important which reminds you about what jews has gone through during the 1940s and what muslims are going through nowadays in different parts of world. Their stories can made you cry (thanks to the narration by Dale - guide of city walk free tour)... Wars never help ... Killing can never be justified... It's time to rethink, reunite and awake against political atrocities...

Very somber place nothing else needs to be said. Just take your time to visit and take a few minutes to contemplate the history here.

Each chair represents 1000 Jewish people who lived in Krakow before the start of WW2. Sobering but important memorial just a short walk from the New Jewish Cemetery. Worth the visit.

Very impressive place. It went through a lot of suffering during that terrible ghetto. It's a spacious place. In this memorial, in that installation, everything is done minimalist. You don't need more than that. We all remember the tragedy of the 30s and 40s of the 20th century.

This square with Metal chairs symbolise the departure😔They have gathered them together at the square before departure 😔 it's very close to Schindler's factory and the river. Many restaurants and bars around.

This Art Installation of empty chairs symbolises the abandoned personal belongings of Jews after the liquidation of the ghetto and commemorates victims of the Holocaust. The square was the starting point for deportations to the death camps.

It remembers the numerous Jewish population inhabiting the city prior to the German occupation in the 1940's

Most traces of the Jewish ghetto are probably gone now but this memorial is a reminder. Not a lot to see or do but worth visiting once for the history, imo.

A last tribute to all jews who believed they were being resettled how ever their chairs were left behind as they were in fact taken to the gas chambers.

An area you must visit associated with the tragedy of the invasion and devastation over the Jewish population.
There are boards with information on.
Each chair represents 1000 Jewish people held in the ghetto

Thank God for this memorial. May the deceased rest in peace. May we always remember the darkness we're each capable of, and may we always strive to be the light.
