Restauracja Baster

Visited the restaurant twice, and on both occasions, the food, service, and atmosphere were perfect. Complimented by excellent wine and beer, it made for an excellent evening meal each time. Our lovely waiter tonight was very helpful. He described each dish accurately and was attentive without being intrusive. This restaurant has to be our favourite restaurant in Krakow and we hope to return soon.

Lovely food with some beautiful vegetarian options as well. Great service: Very attentive, knowledgeable and fun at the same time. It was perfect for a relaxed and happy dinner.

We made a quick reservation for a family dinner at Restauracja Baster, a restaurant with a rich history dating back to the interwar period, specifically to 1926 when Józef Baster established his beer bottling plant on Zbożowa Street in Kraków. Located on Szeroka Street in the heart of Krakow's Kazimierz District, Baster Restaurant offers a unique dining experience steeped in history. Kazimierz is a popular attraction, particularly Szeroka Street, known for its vibrant past and the many stories hidden within its alleys about the people who once lived, socialized, and ran businesses there.

We opted for outdoor dining, and as we settled in, Volodymyr, one of the staff members, approached us to explain the menu and take our order. Volodymyr was exceptionally polite and empathetic towards each guest, making us feel very welcome. We started with the house wine, which was delightful, and then moved on to traditional Polish cuisine for dinner. Our orders included Chicken stuffed with peas and sheep milk cheese accompanied by vegetable letcho, flatbread, and smoked tomato sauce; Pork knuckle (boneless) served with mashed potatoes, cabbage, onion vegetables, herb pesto, and Konik Mustard Sauce; and Pyzy dumplings with pulled pork, horseradish sauce, and cracklings.

Each dish was prepared and served with meticulous care and attention to detail. The flavors were exceptional, and the portions were generous, making every bite a delightful experience. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the friendly and polite staff, particularly Volodymyr, whose service made our dining experience truly memorable.

Overall, our experience at Restauracja Baster was outstanding, with superbly delicious food and excellent service. The historical setting of the restaurant adds a unique charm that makes it a must-visit. We highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to enjoy traditional Polish cuisine in a welcoming and historic environment.

I made a reservation 3 hours before the visit and when we came, the place (including our table) was full. But they admitted their mistake, apologizied, gave us a drinks for free as a gesture and after 10 minutes of waiting we got our table. From that moment our stay at this place was perfect, good and kind service, but especially, food was delicious and exceptional. I will gladly come again, hopefully the reservation of the table will be good too.

A delight for dill lovers! They had a smaller menu than I expected, but nonetheless everything we had was wonderful. The free appetiser at the start (beetroot hummus) was scrumptious. I highly recommend the pickled herring!

Had the loveliest evening here whilst visiting Krakow. Absolutely amazing value for money considering the high quality of the food. Our waiter was also very enthusiastic and very patient with our poor attempts at trying to speak Polish! Highly recommend to anyone.

Had an amazing dinner with some great wine recommedations. The staff is also really friendly and know try to give you a amazing experience. The cocktails on the menu are unique and tasyed very good.

I’ve been in Baster two times, the first experience was not the best because of some issues with the bill. But I really appreciated the action of the owner which pro-actively solved the issue. So we decided to go back there with pleasure.

Food in Baster is really really good, we loved all the dishes so far, maybe the steak could be more tender. But duck and chicken were super delicious as well as the goat grilled cheese as appetizer.

One evening was the birthday of my girlfriend and they prepared an incredible delicious chocolate cake with reminded totally the “setteveli” cake which we have in Sicily!! <3

One applause to the chef to make so well this really complex chocolate cake (7 layers of different chocolates) especially for our event (isn’t in the menu).

Very tasty food, literally no people at 9pm (which was good for us, but maybe not too good for business).

My food was fantastic! I would recommend any day! I started with the baked potato soup and then the pork knuckle steak with a side of horseradish mashed potatoes! My husband had the roast beef salad and the pork ribs with a side of fries. Our waiter, Marcin was so attentive and friendly and only his third day. Thank you for a wonderful end to our trip to krakow!!

Exquisite.

Pork knuckle was fabulous. Cream cheese desert was good. Service was top notch. Sat outside in autumn, which was ideal. Goulash was outstanding.

I don't normally leave reviews but this place, oh man, I need to tell everybody about how good the beef tongue is! The beef tongue melts in the month and the side (pickled cucumber and celery) is spot on! I will definitely recommend this dish!! The other plate we ordered was duck breast - the 'burnt' spinach was amazing, I want to know how to cook that! Parsnip and sauce really up to scratch too. Only negative would be the duck, seemed a little overdone to me.

The service we received was really good. The waiter, Maciej Czyzowski, was professional and introduced the plate well. Would definitely go back again!

Excellent meal. Our server had wonderful suggestions. As it was our first full night in Krakow, we had the duck perogies for an appetizer, followed by the pork rib entree and the duck entree (we shared). Everything was well presented and with outstanding flavors. Wouldn't hesitate to go again.

I liked the atmosphere in this restaurant - it's a very cozy place. The server was professional and polite. Food is also pretty good and tasty. I ordered fish and chips and I'd say that the price is great for a serving of that big size, for 60-80 zł you can get a great lunch/dinner there. Everything was prepared pretty fast also - I didn't wait long until my order arrived.

Delicious dinner and wonderful service! We loved the meal so much we went back a second time during our short stay in Krakow.

The best food we'd ordered in a very long time, not even just in Kraków. The wine and service on top made it a memorable experience. Well deserved 5* here.

A great restaurant. Great service, kind and friendly. Very well made plates and the food on it is delightful. The shared charcuterie board we had on the beginning was composed very well the cured meat on it was made in the restaurant itself even as the home made crostini's wich were still a bit warm and a lovely combination with the red onion compote. The pasta and Duck breast were prepared excellent and the dessert was a surprising taste combination.Fine wine and explanation. Over all we had a lovely night eating here and would defenitely recommend.

Situated close to the Jewish quarter, however, still in a quieter area, this restaurant was definitely a gem.
The service was very nice and fast. The food was absolutely delightful, homey, and super tasty with good-sized portions (not too small, not too big).
The beers were local and quite tasty.
A few nice extras:
- the music was really good (no Christmas songs)
- if you don't like very warm places, then this is the place for you.

We went there twice during our Easter holidays. Food was great, staff very kind and the location unique. I strongly recommend to try it. Giovanni
