Monument built before WWI commemorating the victory of the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth over the expanding Teutonic knights order. Do recall that at the time of the monument being unveiled Krakow was part of the Austrian empire. When the Germans occupied the city, it was demolished and a citizen saved a part of it which is now displayed in Schindler's museum.

A wonderful monument to the battle of Grunwald, which is an important moment in polish history, as it facilitated the rise of the polish-lithuanian grand duchy. It boasts an impressive and great realistic metal sculptures. A quick visit here will benefit your Kraków trip for sure.

A monument dedicated to the battle of Grunwald, commemorating the Polish victory over the Tutonic knights . The size and grandeur of the monument are a clear attestation to the size and significance of this story to the country's national imagination. It is located just outside the medieval walls of the old town of Krakow across from the Barbican. It is certainly worth a visit when you are in town. There are several bars and restaurants in the buildings surrounding the square on which this monument is located

The statute is a symbol of a great Grunwald battle fought by the brave Polish warriors - the grand-grandfathers of this land, who protected this beautiful country's borders for their offspring - Polish Nation. It shall be always remembered though out the centuries.

A wonderful tribute to the history of Poland and the people who fought for it's freedom. Well located.
Do be careful of some of the tiles around this monument. They have come undone and one might trip while looking upto the figures in the monument .

The Grunwald (Tannenberg) battlefield commemorates one of the largest battles of medieval Europe. By the latter half of the 14th century the Teutonic Order had become a major political power playing a leading role in the Baltic region. The last hurdle in the construction of their empire was the state of Lithuania, in particular Samogitia, which lay between the Order’s Prussian and Livonian properties. However, the Polish-Lithuanian Union forged in the 1380s struck a blow to the Teutonic Knights’ policy of expansion. The prospect of their pagan neighbour’s conversion to Christianity left not only the reason for their Teutonic mission under question, but also the very raison d’etre of the Order itself. After years of relative peace, Poland’s conflict with the Order was renewed, and events began to lead towards a conclusive resolution. Zabytek.pl
