La Sombra Hostel

I have visited and stayed at many hotels and resorts around the Caribbeans islands and in North, Central and South America, but I must confess that I do have a favorite hotel!

My favorite hotel is “La Sombra”, located at El Tunco beach, La Libertad, El Salvador. It takes 25 minutes from the airport, and 45 minutes from the capital San Salvador. The hotel is a bit small compared to big renowned hotels and resorts, but it has all you need to have a wonderful experience and vacation near the beach.

The hotel features 12 guestrooms with a/c, private bathroom and a queen or double beds with the option to add additional beds at small cost. There’s a table and a chair with outlets on the wall to charge your phone and other devices. It has a medium size pool and a deck with long beach chairs to sunbathe, relax or with umbrellas to protect you from the sun.

The hotel is on an alley that leads on the left side directly to the beach where you see lots of surfing enthusiasts already catching the early waves, and if you walk towards the right side, you get to the streets where cute and romantic small cafés, restaurants and beach stores are located.

On the premises of the hotel, you’ll find a shared kitchen with all you need like a big refrigerator, gas stove, a large table and sink to prepare foods and wash the dishes and pots after using it. Near the kitchen, there are comfortable and small tables and long beach chairs to relax, unwind and just chill before or after your beach adventures, whichever you prefer like surfing, swimming or just relaxing and enjoying El Tunco beach.

This hotel makes people feel warm and happy with their friendly and attentive staff. La Sombra hotel at El Tunco beach is by far my favorite beach hotel and I highly recommend it to all my friends and family.

Loved this place so much that I returned for a second visit two years later. I stayed in the dorms and private rooms. I was a bit surprised reading some of the reviews. I first want to say that they are one of the cheapest places for dorms and private rooms located so close to the beach. There's a private path from the hostel straight to the beach that feels very cozy. Lots of lounge space for mingling and meeting people or ducking off in a hammock and hiding from everyone. The first time I visited, cleanliness could have been improved, but I feel like it was still much better than other places in the area and you just couldn't beat the price and location. This last visit I saw I vast improvement in cleanliness. I think they remodeled some, too. They def do a good wipe down every day of all the main areas and my private room was amazing. Really the best deal in the area. I spent hours searching for other places trying to find cheaper/better deals with clean, private rooms and nothing compares to this place and it's convenient location. The pool is really a major bonus and was very clean. WiFi was great and also much better than the first time I stayed there. They have two different boosters this time so WiFi reaches the rooms better. I was able to make Skype calls with no issues whatsoever. Staff was very helpful. They also rent surfboards and offer help with other tours and shuttles. Some reviews mentioned that the staff was hardly ever there, but I don't think so. This is Central America folks! You can't expect the same work ethics as Germany... People don't stand at attention 24/7 here. It's too hot and laid back for that. If you want someone waiting on you constantly then go somewhere else, and pay more. If you're looking for a chill, surfer hostel for a great price, where lots of friendly travelers come to have a good time, then this is your place.

Simple place in the heart of El Tunco. You can walk to everything. The room was clean. The ac was cold and had good Wi-Fi connection. They can even arrange for airport transfers. I've stayed twice and I will stay again.
