The mosque was unique. The design was nice and rare compared to other mosque. It has the vibe of a underground mosque. Felt like praying in Al-Marwani mosque in Al-Aqsa.

This is a really unique underground mosque. We felt completely at peace here when we entered. The place is very quiet and intimate, with dim lighting and some green lights in the areas with the tombs. It's a completely different mosque than the ones we had visited and it's a charming and beautiful place.

A very old underground mosque located in the Karakoy neighborhood of Beyoğlu, it is small compared to other famous mosques of Istanbul but has it's own charm.
It is said that it was originally built as fortress to control the acces of the Golden Horn.
Worth a visit.

Very beautiful underground mosque, very clean and old
you can enter from 2 gateswhich lead to a short tunnel down.
You can come from the sea side or from tophane side
The space is dark, illuminated with just a few lamps and some strident green fluorescents that illuminate the ancient tombs of two Muslims (Sahaba) .Maqam
When you come out you can find a very delicious sweets track an old helpful man who sell a delicious rice pudding y( Sütlaç)
You can pass by and try it.

Wonderful experience to witness a mosque actually built underground surrounded with spiritual beauty of the holy ones buried within the shrines.

As before a byzantine warehouse inside this historic place are two companions (sahaba I qiram) of Prophet Muhammed s.a.w and a Tabiin. Their names are Wahb bin Hushayra r.a. (real maqam) , Amr bin As R. a. (honorary maqam) and Sufian bin Uyayna r.a. They came with the Hazrat Ayyub al Ansari r. a. For the first Islamic siege of Constantinopolis. They were captured and imprisoned here. The byzantine left them to die here without giving any food and water but a miracle happened here as there is a well behind one of the Graves (I drank from it, we are close to the sea 50 mt. It is fresh and pure like bottled cold water.) Allah the most merciful granted them water from this well.

Used to be a tower during the conquest. One end of the conqueror Mehmed II’s chain was tied to this former tower to prevent the Byzantine navy from crossing the strait. The mosque resembles basilica cistern in terms of its interiors. Also hosts 3 Sahabah in it.

September 2018. Really nice mosque with resting place of some of the companions (may Allah be pleased with them), hence making it a must visit. If I recall correctly, there's a small nominal fee for using the wudu facilities.

The mosque is housed in the low, vaulted cellar or keep of the Byzantine tower or castle which is probably to be identified with the Castle of Galata. This was the place where one end of the chain was fastened which closed off the mouth of the Golden Horn in times of siege. Descending into the mosque, we find ourselves in a maze of dark, narrow passages. We can find two tombs of martyrs, Abu Sufyan and Amiri Wahabi, both of whom are supposed to have died in the first Arab siege of the city in the seventh century. Their graves were revealed to a Naksibendi dervish in a dream in 1640, whereupon Sultan Murat IV constructed a shrine on the site.

One of my favorite mosques in Istanbul because of the unique design. It is built underground with no section of it above ground. It has green lighting inside which increase the beauty of the mosque. One should visit it if in the Karakoy area.

In Istanbul there is the underground mosque "Yeraltı Camii" . It was built in the 18th century and is now located in the Galata District. Originally, the mosque was located under a fortress, which is no longer available today. Underground mosques are mosques whose spaces and furnishings are under the Earth's surface.

The mosque, which has 3 companions of prophet Muhammad burried inside. Is built underground, supported on arched pillars, similar to underground cellars from the middle ages.
