Sidai Designs should be on everyone’s to-do list in Arusha! The shop itself is a beautiful space and all of the jewellery and other items are stunning. I was also very appreciative of the tour of the workshop and the chance to meet the women and other craftsman! Thank you for answering my numerous questions and for having me, I’m so glad I came!

Sidai Designs is a social enterprise based in Arusha making beautiful Masai made and inspired pieces to wear or display at home. Their ethos is about supporting Masai artisans and their communities by creating products to sell, keeping the tradition of beading alive, as well as providing a number of educational programs. Designs are contemporary and definitely something that you would wear back home - not your usual tourist souvenir. I bought some beautiful pieces for myself and for gifts.

The staff are extremely friendly, will look after you well and spend decent time with you to explain everything. It is the perfect stop for before or after a safari and is definitively worth adding to your itinerary. They can also offer beading classes if you book in advance.

If you are like me, always on the lookout for unique culturally inspired jewelry, then Sidai Designs is a must visit when you are in Arusha. Here you will find beautiful simple and complex designs whose workwormenship is to class and very modest prices. I have seen tons of "African like" jewelry in lots of places on and off the African continent. This is the real thing.
