Decatur County Animal Control

I'm giving 5 stars because my dad's (hoss) dog (gunner) wondered off because he is very old. He has been a very loyal dog and my dad has farmed and lived all over the place so he gets confused and goes to find dad when he forgets that he now lives in an apartment and doesn't live out in the country with his horses. The changes in life style have actually taken a toll on old Gunner and dad is doing his best.. the pound had gotten a call Abt a dog then they picked him up and I guess dad looked for Gunner and called the pound they wanted the fees for my dad I he wld just chip Gunner. They were very professional and I appreciate that and the way u handled my old fashioned father and his dog Gunner. I swear u cld write a book Abt Gunner

I usually adopt animals for life; for the first time in my life, I had to surrender beloved pets. The staff went out of their way to make this experience easier for not only me but them. I was called and told they were adopted [together]. The entire staff at this facility have a hard job, a lot of animals to care for and the biggest hearts.

This shelter is kept very clean! The employees and volunteers take great care in making sure each animal is happy, comfortable, and healthy. They genuinely want to get every pet into a good home!

I took a stray kitten and momma and they were so nice. You can tell they care about the animals. Adoption fees are affordable!
I read the old reviews and they don't hold too the new owners and employees.

Great staff. They went above and beyond when taking care of our Dixie “May May”. She was loved beyond measure and we are so grateful for that! Thank you so much!!

The staff is nice and the place is very clean. They want to get each animal a good home.

My dog very healthy got out and ended up here, brought him home and he started acting sick, next day peeing and pooping blood, stopped eating and drinking, would not play and just laid there. He was a sweet silly boy. Took him to vet and they didn't know what was wrong. He died almost 2 weeks later. Have no idea what happend to him in there but I know they were responsible for doing something to him. Now my sweet silly boy is gone and I miss him dearly.
Should not be called animal control. Basically a dog pound. They don't pick up strays anymore. You must deliver them. There has been a large dog roaming around my neighborhood and I surely am not going to risk my life to take it to them. And they won't take care of this situation.

This animal shelter is a joke barely open and you have failed a poor old girl because you aren’t open on a Monday come on well let me just show you what I had to deal with yesterday sad sad day and because they don’t work she was dumped and shot and left in her own pool of blood why are u a shelter if u don’t do a thing… DO BETTER!!

We just came by to see the dog you seen last night and wanted her so we got money pulled out got everything ready for her make sure she had a home we go there and we can't get her just because my mans mom didn't take her dogs to the vet and the reason behind that is because they didn't have the animals anymore my question is you're going to hold someone's doing onto their kids especially break a little boy's heart we all are jokes I give this a two-star never going here again rather go somewhere else cute animals especially trying to cut him off from trying to talk and tell you the reason behind everything🙄🤷

They would not give me my dog Zeus back until i paid them $110, then tried to treat him as an adoption case and make me get him neutered, also he was not fed and was there for a week until i got my paycheck and now he has been trying to eat so quickly he is throwing up even the small amounts of food we give him along with water, he also now has three big bumps on different areas of his body that the vet is going to have to look at, along with him being so crazy over food now my other dogs cant be near him or he tries to bite them, he has went from being the biggest healthy baby to now a food aggressive dog who cannot keep food/water down. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED in how this situation has been handled, I thought an animal shelter was to help dogs find homes and get home not be held till you pay such a large amount and obviously mistreat my dogs and im sure all of the others. I feel very sorry for every animal that crosses thier path!

These people do not care about the animals at all. It's really sad
